Used 2022 Land Rover Defender for Sale nearNew York, NY

How much does the 2022 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 14.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,269 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Land Rover Defender earns 5/5 from users and 8/10 from expert testing. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.

The Defender stands out by blending old-school off-road character with modern comfort and technology, and it comes in two-door 90 and four-door 110 body styles. That gives you a choice between a more compact setup and a more practical one.

The trade-offs are clear: the touchscreen response is sluggish, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the Defender’s strong road manners and broad range of body styles and powertrains make it appealing if you want genuine capability without giving up modern convenience.

Only 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you may need to shop carefully to find the best value.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Defender is positioned as a bridge between Land Rover’s rugged past and more luxurious present, and that mix usually matters in ownership. Its four-wheel-drive hardware, low-range transfer case, and strong off-road credentials point to a vehicle built for hard use, while the modern cabin and comfort features make it easier to live with day to day.

The performance side also supports confidence: the powertrains are described as refined and unintrusive, and the Defender is said to be impressively comfortable on pavement. Land Rover’s four-year, 50,000-mile warranty and roadside assistance plan add some reassurance, but long-term ownership risk still comes down to whether you’re prepared for a complex, capability-focused SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Land Rover Defender?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used off-road. Focus on signs of wear in the cabin, suspension, tires, and underbody, since this model is built to do more than commute.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Defender’s base setup is more stripped down, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience. The cabin is rugged but still modern, and the upper trims bring a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a turbocharged four-cylinder, a turbocharged inline-six mild hybrid, or a V8. The V8 is the most powerful option and adds sportier tuning, but it also brings worse fuel economy.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist tech includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and traffic-sign recognition with speed-limit adapter. Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are optional, so check whether a used example has them.
• Infotainment: The standard system includes a 10-inch central touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is standard on every trim level except the base model, and an 11.4-inch touchscreen is newly available for 2022.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder is rated at 19 mpg combined, 18 mpg city, and 21 mpg highway. The six-cylinder mild hybrid is also rated at 19 mpg combined, 17 mpg city, and 22 mpg highway. The V8 drops to 16 mpg combined, 15 mpg city, and 19 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2022 Land Rover Defender is offered in 5 trim levels: Defender 90, Defender 110, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE, and Carpathian Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Defender 90: This is the most compact choice and the best fit if you want the Defender’s character in a smaller footprint. It keeps the model’s rugged personality and is the entry point if you want to spend less.
• Defender 110: This is the better all-around pick for most shoppers because it adds more practicality and space. If you want the Defender’s capability with easier day-to-day use, this is the one to target.
• X-Dynamic SE: This trim adds more equipment and a more upscale feel than the lower trims, making it a smart step up if you want extra comfort without going all the way to the top.
• X-Dynamic HSE: This is the more premium choice in the middle of the lineup, and it suits you if you want a richer cabin and more features.
• Carpathian Edition: This is the most distinctive and high-end version, and it makes sense if you want the most fully equipped Defender experience.

The safety package is not standard across the lineup, so check carefully for blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Land Rover Defender?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers.

• Deal availability: 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,269 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $42,837, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $42,837 sits slightly below last year's $50,328.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers than sellers in the near term. If you plan to resell later, the current pricing gives you a lower entry point, but it also means you should expect some pressure on future resale if the market stays soft.

The Defender’s broad appeal helps support demand, especially because it combines rugged capability with a more refined driving experience. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist tech includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and traffic-sign recognition with speed-limit adapter. Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are optional, so you should confirm whether a used example has those features before you buy.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, which is a notable omission for a luxury SUV. That makes trim and option content especially important if safety tech is a priority for you.

Should I buy a 2022 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds a new optional 11.4-inch touchscreen, standard wireless phone charging, and an expanded trim lineup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $39,464, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $42,837 average.
• It emphasizes serious off-road ability with a modern, upscale personality.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $51,395, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $42,837 average.
• It adds the Defender 130 and leans harder into practicality and customization.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and availability, the 2022 is the strongest starting point. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the cheaper route into the Defender formula.
