Used 2022 Land Rover Defender for Sale nearDayton, OH

How much does the 2022 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 14.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,268 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Land Rover Defender earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.

It stands out by blending traditional off-road character with modern tech and road manners, and it was designed to bridge Land Rover’s past and present. That makes it a strong fit if you want rugged capability without giving up everyday usability, especially with the choice of two-door 90 and four-door 110 body styles.

The main trade-offs are the sluggish touchscreen response and the fact that advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the Defender’s stylish design, multiple body styles, and great ride quality help offset those drawbacks for many shoppers.

38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Defender is built around a rugged formula, with standard four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, and off-road hardware that supports serious trail use. Its road manners are also described as comfortable and refined enough for everyday driving, which matters if you plan to live with it full time.

The 2.0-liter turbo-four and 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six are described as refined and unintrusive, while the V8 adds a major performance boost. That combination suggests the Defender’s mechanical character is broad rather than fragile-feeling, though the model’s thirsty fuel economy is a reminder that ownership costs can be higher than average.

Land Rover includes a four-year, 50,000-mile new-car limited warranty, plus roadside assistance and corrosion coverage. For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is making sure the vehicle was maintained carefully, since capability-focused SUVs can be expensive to sort out if prior care was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Land Rover Defender?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace documentation. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the touchscreen, driver-assistance equipment, and signs of hard use, especially if the vehicle was driven off pavement. Condition matters a lot here because the Defender’s appeal depends on both its rugged hardware and its everyday livability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Defender’s styling stays distinctive, with a boxy profile, tailgate-mounted spare tire, and flat hood, while the interior mixes rugged touches like exposed screws and metal trim with more upscale materials. Base-trim equipment is lighter, so you should pay close attention to feature gaps if you want a more complete cabin.
• Powertrain: Base models use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, while the mid-level option is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six mild-hybrid rated at 395 hp and 406 lb-ft. The V8 brings 518 hp and 461 lb-ft, plus unique tuning and an electronic active rear differential.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist tech includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and traffic-sign recognition with speed-limit adapter. Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are optional, so you should confirm whether a used example has the safety equipment you want.
• Infotainment: The standard Pivi Pro system includes a 10-inch central touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is standard on every trim level except the base model, and an 11.4-inch touchscreen is newly available for 2022.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder Defender 90 is rated at 19 mpg combined, while the six-cylinder mild hybrid is also rated at 19 mpg combined. The Defender 90 V8 is rated at 16 mpg combined, and the 110 V8 gets a 14 mpg city rating.

Which 2022 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2022 Land Rover Defender is offered in 4 trim levels: Defender 90, Defender 110, X-Dynamic SE, and X-Dynamic HSE.

Here's the short version:

• Defender 90: This is the entry point if you want the Defender’s rugged character at the lowest starting price, and it still gives you the core off-road hardware and distinctive design. It makes the most sense if you value the shorter body style and want to keep costs down.
• Defender 110: Choose this if you want the more practical four-door layout and a more versatile everyday setup. It suits buyers who want the Defender experience with easier passenger and cargo use.
• X-Dynamic SE: This trim is part of the expanded 2022 lineup and is a good fit if you want a step up from the base setup without jumping all the way to the top end. It should appeal to shoppers who want more equipment and a more polished feel.
• X-Dynamic HSE: This is the better choice if you want a more fully equipped Defender and are willing to pay for it. It’s the trim to target if you want the strongest mix of luxury and capability.

The safety package is not standard across the board, so confirm the exact driver-assistance equipment on any trim you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Land Rover Defender?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,268 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $43,979, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $43,980 sits slightly below last year's $51,414.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment, since the model’s current pricing has already moved lower.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist tech includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and traffic-sign recognition with speed-limit adapter. Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are optional, so you should verify whether a used example has the safety features you want.

One important caveat is that the IIHS and NHTSA haven’t published safety ratings for the Defender. That means you should lean more heavily on the vehicle’s equipment list and condition when evaluating a used one.

Should I buy a 2022 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds an optional 11.4-inch touchscreen, standard wireless phone charging, and a new V8 powertrain option.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $39,960, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $43,980 average.
• It emphasizes serious off-road ability with a more polished feel than many trail-focused SUVs.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $52,073, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $43,980 average.
• It adds the Defender 130, bringing more practicality and a more upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, equipment, and current-market availability, the 2022 is the smart default. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play, while the 2023 makes sense if you want the newer body style and can stretch your budget.
