Used 2022 Kia Sportage for Sale nearDurham, NC

How much does the 2022 Kia Sportage cost?

Prices have softened 7.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,361 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2022 Kia Sportage a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 7.67/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the Sportage for its features, value, and performance upgrades, and many also like the comfortable interior and strong power. The overview also points to a polished, well-equipped feel, with spacious packaging and standard advanced safety features helping it stand out for everyday use.

The trade-offs are worth keeping in mind: expert testing calls out outdated technology, and owner feedback points to limited rear legroom and modest acceleration. That makes it a better fit if you value comfort, features, and a refined feel more than cutting-edge tech or brisk everyday punch.

The Sportage’s place in Kia’s crossover lineup makes it a practical choice if you want a compact SUV that feels more upscale than basic transportation. With 36.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Kia Sportage reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary also points to a vehicle that many shoppers found feature-rich and dependable enough to recommend, with comfort and value coming through as recurring positives.

Expert testing reinforces that impression by describing the Sportage as competent and well suited to everyday use, with a powertrain that can stand up to competitors when properly equipped. Kia’s warranty coverage also adds peace of mind for ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example, since some owners reported condition issues at purchase and the cabin tech is not the newest.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Sportage?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on interior condition, rear-seat space, and whether the tech and convenience features work as expected, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the base trim, while the LX Value Edition Package adds features from higher trims and dark gray 18-inch wheels. The EX gains a standard panoramic sunroof, and the SX Turbo brings the most upscale feel with 19-inch wheels, metal pedal covers, and a premium interior presentation.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, while the SX Turbo upgrades to 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, or 237 hp with AWD. Both use a six-speed automatic, and AWD is available with a locking center differential at low speeds.
• Safety package: Every trim gets forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and a driver monitoring system. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning requires the LX Value Edition Package or any version above the base LX.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Most trims also include UVO Link connected services and satellite radio, while the SX Turbo adds wireless smartphone charging and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2022 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Sportage is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Nightfall Edition, EX, and SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sportage lineup. It still gives you the core safety and infotainment features, but you miss out on the blind-spot warning system unless you add the LX Value Edition Package.
• Nightfall Edition: This is the new-for-2022 style-focused choice, replacing the S version. It suits you if you want a more distinctive look without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• EX: This is the best-value pick for many shoppers because it adds a standard panoramic sunroof and sits in the sweet spot between affordability and comfort.
• SX Turbo: This is the one to choose if you want the strongest performance, the most upscale feel, and the richest feature set, including the premium audio system and wireless charging.

For safety-package value, remember that blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is not standard on the base LX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Sportage?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,361 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,623, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $17,623 sits slightly below last year's $19,103.

That price movement suggests the Sportage has become more accessible for buyers, which can help keep demand steady in the near term. For future sellers, the softer market means you may need to price competitively if you want to move quickly.

The good news is that the model’s broad appeal, strong feature content, and solid owner satisfaction can help support used demand over time. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to sell than neglected ones.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Sportage safe?

The Kia Sportage is a safe SUV, and it earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

No matter which trim level you choose, you get forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and a driver monitoring system. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is not standard on the base LX, so that’s an important trim-level gap to watch.

The safety testing notes also matter: only the SX Turbo earns an Acceptable headlight rating, which is enough for an IIHS Top Safety Pick laurel. That makes headlight performance a key detail if you’re comparing trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new Nightfall Edition and more standard equipment for 2022.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,977, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,623 average.
• It offers a competent, value-focused compact crossover with a strong warranty.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $23,462, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,623 average.
• It brings a more modern, spacious, and tech-forward redesign.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and current-market availability, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money, while shoppers who want a newer-feeling cabin and more modern design may prefer the 2023 despite the higher price.
