Is the 2022 Kia Carnival a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Kia Carnival earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the Carnival’s spaciousness, innovative technology, and comfort. The user feedback also points to the vehicle’s unique features and its strong value proposition, which fits a family-focused vehicle that tries to feel more upscale than a typical minivan.

The main trade-offs are that it still has a van-like appearance, cargo space is limited, and the transmission can be irritating in Smart mode. For you, that means the Carnival makes the most sense if you want a practical people mover with a more distinctive look and a richer feature set than many rivals.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 37.0% of listings priced as good or great deals.

The expert evaluation also describes the V6 as smooth and effortless, and the automatic transmission as unobtrusive in normal driving.

Kia’s warranty and roadside assistance coverage add another layer of reassurance for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example whose features and electronics still work as intended.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Carnival?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a family hauler like this, where you want to confirm that the sliding doors, infotainment, driver-assistance systems, and rear-seat features all work properly. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of heavy family use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: LX gives you the basic exterior treatment, 17-inch wheels, cloth seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen, while EX adds larger wheels, simulated leather, and a more upscale cabin. SX brings a mirrored grille, black wheels, and rear entertainment, and SX Prestige adds real leather and VIP Lounge Seats.
• Powertrain: Every Carnival uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. There is no all-wheel drive or electrified powertrain option.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning with collision avoidance, lane-departure, lane-keeping, and lane-centering assistance, rear parking sensors, a driver monitoring system, and a reversing camera. EX adds front parking sensors, cyclist detection, navigation-based adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and Highway Driving Assist.
• Infotainment: LX has an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. EX upgrades to a 12.3-inch widescreen display, but CarPlay and Android Auto become wired; it also adds navigation, wireless charging, and more connected features.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it should return 22 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 21.7 mpg.

Which 2022 Kia Carnival trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Carnival is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, SX, and SX Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Carnival’s core value proposition: the V6, wireless smartphone integration, and the roomy family-friendly layout. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is the least upscale version.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 12.3-inch screen, navigation, wireless charging, more connected features, and extra driver-assistance equipment. It also brings a more polished cabin with simulated leather and nicer wheels.
• SX: This trim is the one to choose if rear-seat entertainment matters, since it adds the dual-screen rear entertainment system and a more distinctive exterior look. It also gets the surround-view camera system.
• SX Prestige: This is the most luxurious version, with real leather, VIP Lounge Seats, a digital instrument display, and the blind-view camera feature. It is the right pick if you want the most premium Carnival experience.

The EX trim is the best-value choice for most used buyers, while SX and SX Prestige make sense if you want the richer tech and comfort upgrades. Safety equipment is strong across the lineup, with EX adding several useful driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Carnival?

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 652 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.41% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,192, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Carnival's resale value?

The current average of $24,192 sits slightly below last year's $27,619.

That decline suggests the Carnival has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand from shoppers who want a well-equipped family vehicle without paying new-car pricing. For a future seller, the current market means you may need to price competitively if you want to move the vehicle quickly.

The good news is that the Carnival’s strong value story, roomy interior, and feature-rich packaging should continue to support interest from family buyers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Carnival safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Carnival comes with a long list of standard driver-assistance features, including forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning with collision avoidance, lane-departure, lane-keeping, and lane-centering assistance, rear parking sensors, a driver monitoring system, and a reversing camera with dynamic parking guidance lines.

EX trim adds front parking sensors, cyclist detection, navigation-based adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist. SX adds an outstanding surround-view camera system, while SX Prestige gets a blind-view monitor. The review also notes that Highway Driving Assist can feel overly intrusive, so you may prefer to leave it off.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Carnival or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It introduced Kia’s crossover-inspired styling, VIP-style seating, and strong value positioning for the Carnival nameplate.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,403, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $24,192 average.
• It continues the Carnival’s stylish minivan approach while reinforcing its practical, family-focused identity.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and the feature set is still strong. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2023 is the secondary path, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2022 and shop for a clean, well-equipped example.
