CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 598 currently listed for sale near Omaha, NE and an average price of $30,259, 65.6% of 2022 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4.93 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 5.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2022 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it is still one of the few vehicles that combines retro styling with true open-air versatility and serious off-road ability. It can be had as a two-door or four-door convertible, and it also offers removable doors and a fold-down windshield. That unusual mix gives it a character that is hard to mistake for anything else, and it helps explain why the Wrangler remains such a distinctive choice even as other vehicles have moved into its territory.
What makes the 2022 Wrangler appealing is the way it blends personality with capability. It offers multiple powertrain options, it is fun to drive, and it delivers impressive off-road performance. At the same time, it is not trying to hide its compromises: poor fuel economy, poor ride quality, and unimpressive safety ratings are part of the package. That tradeoff is central to the Wrangler’s appeal, since buyers are choosing a vehicle that prioritizes adventure and individuality over everyday polish.
Owners echo that same appeal, often praising the 2022 Jeep Wrangler’s iconic design, customizable features, and off-road performance. They also like the soft top and the overall driving experience. Some, however, note that it can feel overpriced and point to gas mileage and certain basic design choices as drawbacks.

I absolutely LOVE my jeep. It has so many features that are so convenient and worth every extra penny .This is also my first car and I don’t care that I spent more than 50k on a car. I had the money and it’s been my dream car since I was younger. The overall worth to me already is more than what I spent and I’d gladly make the same decision over again. It’s absolutely gorgeous. If you love it, you want it and can afford it, GO FOR IT! Strongly recommend

How much does the 2022 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $30,541 |
| Year-Round Low | $30,549.53 |
| Year-Round High | $34,049.34 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $34,023 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.23% |
Prices have softened 10.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 8,632 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability.
If you find a listing below $30,549.53, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.93/5 user rating and a 5.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its iconic design, fun driving experience, and customizable features. They also like the soft top and the vehicle’s off-road performance.
The trade-offs are clear: the expert review points to poor fuel economy and poor ride quality, and owners also mention gas mileage concerns and some basic interior choices.
For you, that means the Wrangler makes the most sense if you want personality and capability first, not everyday polish. With 34.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle people tend to trust for its durable, adventure-ready character, with recurring praise for its dependable feel and off-road confidence. The expert review also frames it as a rugged SUV built around a singular, long-running formula rather than a soft, comfort-first design.
The cost-effectiveness discussion reinforces that this is a vehicle you buy with clear expectations: it rewards you if you value capability and character, but it asks you to accept compromises. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is whether you can live with those trade-offs over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a Wrangler’s off-road life can hide wear that a quick walkaround won’t reveal. Prioritize an inspection of the roof, doors, suspension, tires, and underbody, and pay close attention to signs of hard use or poor maintenance. Condition matters a lot here because the Wrangler’s appeal depends on how well it has been cared for.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The core lineup includes Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. Base versions are relatively basic, while higher trims and special editions add more convenience and appearance equipment.
- Powertrain: You can shop turbocharged four-cylinder, gasoline V6, turbodiesel V6, gas V8, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The turbo-four and V6 engines come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, and an eight-speed automatic is available.
- Safety package: The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
- Infotainment: The basic setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The larger 8.4-inch system adds satellite radio, connected services, a WiFi hotspot, navigation, and an Alpine premium sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The eTorque V6 is rated at 21 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 16.8 mpg over a week.
Which 2022 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest starting point and plan to add only what you need.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it serves as the basis for the test vehicle and opens the door to more usable equipment and option packages.
- Sahara: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented setup and expect to spend more time on-road than on trails.
- Rubicon: Pick this if off-road capability is your priority, since it is the most trail-focused trim in the core lineup.
The safety-package note is simple: the Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group are optional rather than standard, so you should look for them specifically on any used example you consider.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 8,632 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.23% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $30,549.53, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $30,541 sits slightly below last year's $34,023.
That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price more competitively to move a Wrangler quickly. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. The Wrangler’s strong enthusiast appeal can help support demand, but condition and equipment will matter a lot when you eventually resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler safe?
It earns a three-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA, and it earns Marginal ratings in IIHS small overlap and side-impact testing.
It earns a 2/10 safety score from our experts.
The Safety Group includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
The key caveat is that safety features are optional rather than standard, and the crash-test results are not strong for a modern SUV. If safety is a top priority, you should treat this as a major consideration before buying.
Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.23% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a new air filtration system and a more capable Rubicon axle setup.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $28,242, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $30,541 average.
- It offers a plug-in hybrid option and a Hemi V8 in the four-door model.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $35,298, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $30,541 average.
- It emphasizes solid axles and a five-link suspension for serious trail capability.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current pricing, strong inventory, and the Wrangler’s signature character, the 2022 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while still delivering the core Wrangler formula. If you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2023 is the next step up, but you should expect to pay more for it.
