How much does the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?

Prices have softened 9.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,633 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its excellent value, impressive technology, and comfortable ride. They also like the spacious interior and advanced safety features, which fit the Santa Fe’s role as a well-rounded family SUV.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and fairly pedestrian performance, and some drivers note a bit of noise from the turbo engine. That said, the Santa Fe’s value-focused setup makes the most sense if you want a roomy midsize SUV without paying for a luxury badge.

The market backs that up, with 40.8% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly highlighting the Santa Fe’s comfort, technology, and everyday usefulness. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that Hyundai’s ownership package adds to the sense of long-term confidence, including a generous warranty and complimentary maintenance.

That combination suggests the Santa Fe should be a reassuring used buy if you keep up with routine service and choose a well-maintained example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a full ownership record. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the engine, transmission behavior, and the condition of the cabin and safety systems. Since this model is praised for value and technology, make sure the features you want are actually present and working as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XRT adds blacked-out exterior details, unique black alloy wheels, additional lower body cladding, fake front and rear skid plates, nearly useless running boards, and roof-rail crossbars, but it does not add a suspension lift or more aggressive tires.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, and it is adequate for normal driving but not especially quick. Higher trims get a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim.
• Infotainment: The XRT has a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and an 8-inch touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and Bluelink connected services. The larger 10.25-inch touchscreen is available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 22.3 mpg, and the official EPA fuel economy rating is 24 mpg.

Which 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the Santa Fe lineup and are comfortable with the most basic setup.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim because it adds the equipment foundation that the XRT builds on, making it the smarter choice if you want more content without chasing appearance upgrades.
• XRT: This trim adds the outdoor-themed styling package, the SEL’s equipment plus its Convenience Package, and standard wireless smartphone connectivity, but the visual changes are the main draw.
• Limited: This is the better pick if you want the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine and a more upscale feel.
• Calligraphy: This is the top trim if you want the most premium version of the Santa Fe lineup and the strongest luxury-leaning presentation.

Hyundai SmartSense safety equipment is standard across the lineup, but Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?

It looks like a buyer’s market right now, with solid deal availability and a price trend that favors shoppers.

• Deal availability: 40.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,633 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,402, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?

The current average of $21,404 sits slightly below last year's $23,521.

That decline suggests the Santa Fe has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help keep demand steady in the near term. For a future seller, that means your resale outcome will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still attract attention, especially because this model year has strong value and safety appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and earns five-star ratings in every National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) test except for a four-star rollover resistance score.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai SmartSense brings forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Safe Exit Assist is also standard, and the ultrasonic rear occupant alert system adds another layer of family-friendly protection.

One caveat is that Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim. Even so, the Santa Fe’s standard safety suite is broad and well executed, which makes it a strong choice if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 40.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds the XRT trim and expands safety availability later in the year.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,559, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,404 average.
• It brings a substantial update with new styling, controls, displays, engines, technology, and safety systems.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,416, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,404 average.
• It carries over nearly unchanged with minor equipment shuffling and a small horsepower bump.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and equipment at a softened price. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the better bargain; if you want a newer carryover with only minor changes, the 2023 is worth comparing, but it costs more.
