Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its excellent value, fuel efficiency, safety features, and stylish design. The overview also points to a roomy cabin and a bargain price, which makes it especially appealing if you want a lot of equipment without moving up-market.

The trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine, uncomfortable seats, and noisy demeanor. In practical terms, that means you should like the Elantra most if you prioritize efficiency, features, and value over refinement or strong acceleration.

Good and great deals account for 34.1% of listings, so there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

The owner feedback emphasizes dependable value, strong fuel economy, and a feature-rich ownership experience. It also points to the car’s impressive warranty, which reinforces the sense that you can count on it over time.

The expert evaluation also supports that impression by highlighting top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty. On the ownership side, the included complimentary maintenance helps reduce early running costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right trim and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are strong but not universal. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage car or one with visible wear. Focus on seat condition, cabin noise, and how the car feels on a test drive, since those are the kinds of issues that can matter most in daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited each bring different equipment levels, and the base trim is the most stripped-down. The SE starts with an 8-inch touchscreen, while the Limited adds a 10.25-inch display, navigation, a Bose audio system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and wireless device charging.
• Powertrain: The SE, SEL, and Limited use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The N Line upgrades to a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft, plus either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT.
• Safety package: The standard SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.
• Infotainment: The base setup includes an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, Bluetooth, four speakers, and dual USB ports. SEL, Hybrid Blue, and N Line trims add two speakers, satellite radio, and Blue Link connected services, while Limited trims get a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy ranges from 37 mpg on the SE to 28 mpg on the N Line with manual transmission and 31 mpg with DCT. The Hybrid Blue reaches 54 mpg, and the Hybrid Limited returns 50 mpg.

Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want strong standard tech, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the core SmartSense safety suite. It’s the best fit if you care most about price and efficiency.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more speakers, satellite radio, Blue Link connected services, and access to more available equipment. If you want a more complete daily driver without jumping to the pricier trims, this is the one to focus on.
• N Line: This is the choice if you want the most engaging gas-powered Elantra, with the turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, multi-link rear suspension, larger brakes, and available manual transmission. It suits you best if driving enjoyment matters more than maximum comfort.
• Limited: This is the most upscale gas trim, with the 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Bose audio, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and more available driver-assistance tech. It’s the right pick if you want the most features and the most polished cabin experience.

The lower-level SE, SEL, and N Line trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS headlight rating, while the Limited’s LED headlights earned a Good rating.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,675 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,009, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $17,009 sits slightly below last year's $18,206.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also temper future resale gains. If you’re planning to sell later, the current softness means your return will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and trim choice.

Well-equipped trims with stronger feature sets should be easier to market than bare-bones examples. A clean history and strong maintenance record should matter more than usual if you want to protect value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in front crash protection and five-star ratings in side crash protection and rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. Standard equipment also includes driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder system, and Safe Exit Warning.

Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. The main caveat is that the lower-level trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS headlight rating, while the Limited’s LED headlights earned a Good rating.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines stylish design, roomy space, excellent fuel economy, and strong standard safety tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,827, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,009 average.
• It emphasizes style, sophistication, space, and value.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $19,044, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,009 average.
• It broadens appeal with basic transportation, a 50-mpg hybrid, and budget-friendly sport-sedan options.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and efficiency, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the better value play. If you want a wider range of powertrain choices and don’t mind paying more, the 2023 is worth a look.
