How much does the 2022 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 9.44% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,934 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.8/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 6.7/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise the comfortable ride, smooth driving experience, and confidence in snowy conditions, especially with all-wheel drive. The user feedback also points to safety features as a plus, along with a generally fair value proposition.

On the downside, the expert review calls out sluggish performance and interior materials that feel cheap. The Terrain’s appeal is strongest if you want a comfortable, easy-to-live-with compact crossover rather than a sporty or especially upscale one.

The overview frames it well: you get a useful set of features, a comfortable ride, and wireless smartphone integration, but not strong value or real off-road ability. With 36.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user summary points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with drivers highlighting comfort, smoothness, and confidence in snowy conditions. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you’re trying to judge whether a used SUV will feel trouble-free over time.

The expert review also describes the Terrain as easy to live with and notes that its safety systems work effectively and subtly, which supports day-to-day dependability. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle’s comfort-first character and modest performance still fit your expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Terrain?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Start with a vehicle history report, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing has any signs of prior damage, heavy wear, or inconsistent maintenance. You should also focus on cabin condition, because the Terrain’s interior materials and execution are a known weak point.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SLE and SLT are more affordable and come with standard front-wheel drive, while AWD is optional; the Denali adds a layer of luxury, and the AT4 adds a bolder grille, black 17-inch alloy wheels, sport-terrain tires, and a steel front skid plate.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Terrain uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic; the engine is tuned for usable torque rather than quick acceleration, and the AT4 can switch between FWD and AWD modes.
• Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator; GMC Pro Safety Plus adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, rear parking sensors, and a Safety Alert Seat, with the package standard on Denali.
• Infotainment: SLE gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while SLT, AT4, and Denali get an 8-inch touchscreen; both systems include Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, OnStar-connected services, and Wi-Fi hotspot access, with connected navigation and a Bose premium sound system available on the larger screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The Terrain AT4 is rated at 26 mpg, and the review notes 26.2 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2022 GMC Terrain trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Terrain is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SLE: This is the most affordable path into the Terrain and still gives you the standard safety package plus the 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the core comfort-and-tech formula that makes the SUV easy to live with.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim if you want the larger 8-inch touchscreen and a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to Denali; it also keeps the Terrain’s easy-to-use tech and available safety upgrades in play.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the rugged styling, standard AWD, sport-terrain tires, and skid plate, but keep in mind the review says the look is more convincing than the actual off-road capability.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with standard GMC Pro Safety Plus and the most premium equipment in the lineup, but it makes the most sense only if you specifically want the top trim’s added polish.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, while GMC Pro Safety Plus is optional on SLE, SLT, and AT4 and standard on Denali.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Terrain?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,934 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.44% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,989, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $20,989 sits slightly below last year's $23,176.

That decline suggests the Terrain has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, it also means you may need to price competitively if you want to stand out against a larger pool of similarly equipped listings.

The good news is that the model’s comfort, easy-to-use technology, and strong owner satisfaction can help support buyer interest. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain safe?

The 2022 GMC Terrain earns mostly “Good” crash-test scores from IIHS, but it also receives a “Marginal” rating in the new side-impact test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2022 Terrain comes standard with GMC Pro Safety, which includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, rear parking sensors, and a Safety Alert Seat; it’s optional on SLE, SLT, and AT4, and standard on Denali.

The main caveat is that the IIHS side-impact result is weaker than the rest of the crash-test picture. The review also notes that lane-centering is not available for the 2022 Terrain.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.44% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds the AT4 trim, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a strong mix of comfort and safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the Terrain’s comfortable ride, easy tech, and broad safety equipment, the 2022 is the right year to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible price, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2022’s softer pricing and strong owner satisfaction make it the better all-around used buy for most shoppers.

How does the 2022 GMC Terrain compare to the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2022 GMC Terrain:

• Pros: Comfortable, Easy-to-use technology, Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
• Cons: Sluggish performance, Interior materials feel cheap, Poor value for money.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox:

• Pros: Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Easy-to-use technology.
• Cons: Fairly pedestrian performance, Irritating transmission, Not much cargo space.

Our experts score the 2022 GMC Terrain 6.7/10 and the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox 6.8/10. The two SUVs are closely matched, but the Equinox edges ahead on score while the Terrain leans more heavily into comfort. Both offer easy-to-use tech and wireless smartphone integration, but the Terrain’s value and interior quality are weaker points. If you care most about comfort and a more premium-feeling presentation, the Terrain has the edge; if you want the slightly better expert score and lower average used price, the Equinox is the more budget-friendly pick.
