Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you are considering, because condition can vary a lot from one heavy-duty pickup to the next. A careful inspection matters most on trucks that may have been used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving, since those uses can accelerate wear.

Focus on the truck’s overall condition, equipment level, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you are shopping. If possible, prioritize examples with the safety and camera equipment you want, since those systems can make a big difference in day-to-day use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Pro trim is aimed at fleet operators and contractors and does not include leather or fancy tech, while the SLE and SLT add more comfort for mainstream buyers. The AT4 is the off-road-focused choice, and the Denali is the luxury-oriented version.
• Powertrain: The truck offers strong 6.6-liter V8 gas and turbodiesel options, and the Duramax diesel is paired with an excellent Allison 10-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, following distance indicator, hill-descent control, and front and rear park assist. Standard items include HD Surround Vision, a rear-seat reminder system, driver Safety Alert Seat, and a Teen Driver system.
• Infotainment: Depending on trim, you get a 7-inch or 8-inch color touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on SLT and above, available on SLE, and not offered on the base Pro trim. A navigation system is standard on Denali and available on SLT and AT4.
• Fuel efficiency: During testing, the truck averaged an indicated 14.4 mpg in combined city and highway driving while not towing.

Which 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD is offered in 5 trim levels: Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the work-focused choice if you want maximum capability without extra frills. It is the least expensive path into the Sierra 2500HD, but you give up leather and the nicer tech features found higher up the range.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience while staying below the pricier luxury and off-road models. It also opens the door to more tech, including available wireless smartphone integration.
• SLT: This is the right step up if you want a more polished truck with stronger feature content. It adds more mainstream appeal and is a good fit if you want a balance of comfort, tech, and capability.
• AT4: This is the trim to choose if you want the off-road-oriented setup. It adds the rugged hardware and appearance that suit buyers who want a more adventurous heavy-duty truck.
• Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the most upscale presentation and the richest feature set. It makes sense if you want the Sierra 2500HD to feel as premium as possible.
