The 2022 Ford GT is one of the most advanced high-performance American supercars of all time. It traces its roots back to the iconic GT40, which dominated a four-year run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The modern Ford GT also raced at Le Mans, but all good things must come to an end: After the 2022 model year, the GT will be discontinued.

The GT’s most notable exterior feature is its “flying buttresses,” which connect the rear body of the car to the wheel wells while allowing air to pass through. Ahead of this design feature, the butterfly-style doors open up to a modern, functional cockpit. It comes equipped with a fully digital instrument panel, carbon fiber Sparco bucket seats, and, since the seats are in a fixed position, adjustable driver pedals. The GT also features a 6.5-inch touch screen that runs Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has a stalkless steering wheel, placing many of the lighting and windshield wiper controls directly on the wheel.

The 2022 Ford GT comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. It makes 660 horsepower, routed to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powertrain yields a zero-to-sixty time of just three seconds on the way to a top speed of 216 mph. Fuel economy for the 2022 Ford GT is 12 mpg city, 18 highway, and 14 combined. The Ford GT requires premium fuel.

Ford has mastered chassis dynamics thanks to a hydraulic adjustable suspension. This allowed the automaker to also use a hydraulic steering system that is more communicative than more modern electric-assisted steering setups. The GT also comes with Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2 tires and carbon-ceramic brakes. Carbon fiber wheels are available as an option.

The GT features five drive modes: Normal, Wet, Sport, Track, and V-Max. Each mode has a unique setup for the suspension height and firmness, brakes, powertrain, and steering. It also manipulates the power-deploying rear spoiler depending on the drive mode. While its chassis technology is advanced, the GT lacks some of the latest driver-assistance features you might find in a typical road car.

The 2022 Ford GT costs $550,000. Special editions and levels of personalization can add tens of thousands to that price. There is also a track-only version, called the GT MkII—production is limited to just 45 vehicles costing $1.2 million each. The road-going version of the Ford GT is backed by a three-year/unlimited mile powertrain warranty.
