The current average of $28,165 sits slightly below last year's $32,668.

That gap suggests the model has softened in the used market, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, the recent decline means your future resale value will likely depend heavily on mileage, condition, and how well you maintain the vehicle. Well-kept examples should hold up better than average listings, especially if you keep service records and avoid cosmetic wear.

Should I buy a 2022 Ford Explorer Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.79% compared with last year.

The bottom line:
The 2022 is the better primary path if you want a year with meaningful inventory and a softer price trend. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you should also compare nearby model years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
