Overview

Ford first introduced a hybrid version of the popular three-row Explorer SUV when it was redesigned in 2020. Since the Explorer Hybrid is so new, not much has changed for 2022.
All Explorer Hybrids come with a 3.3-liter V6 engine, which combines with the electric motor, battery, and 10-speed automatic to make 318 system horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. Ford lets you choose between rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). Properly equipped with the Class III Tow Package, the Explorer will pull as much as 5,000 lbs. Fuel economy measures 27 mpg city, 28 highway, and 27 combined with RWD, and 23 city, 26 highway, and 25 combined with AWD.
Of the myriad Explorer trims, the hybrid is offered in just two: Limited and Platinum. The Limited comes standard with LED exterior lighting, power-folding and heated exterior mirrors, acoustic glass, chrome exterior appointments, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, keyless access and start, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a hands-free power liftgate, third-row seating, and an 8-inch touchscreen audio system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Platinum comes with adaptive headlights, tri-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and upgraded leather with diamond stitching. Other options include second-row bucket seats with or without a center console, power-folding third-row seats, an upgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system with 14 speakers and 960 watts, multi-contour front seats with a massage feature, and a 10.1-inch vertical touchscreen.
Every Explorer Hybrid comes with the Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ system. It comprises forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, adaptive cruise control, active parking assist, and auto high beams. While the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has inexplicably not tested the Explorer family in the last decade, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded it a Top Safety Pick+ designation.

How much does the 2022 Ford Explorer Hybrid cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $29,446 |
| Year-Round Low | $28,825.37 |
| Year-Round High | $34,119.62 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $33,815 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.92% |
Prices have softened 12.92% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 207 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $28,825.37, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Ford Explorer Hybrid a good car?
With 25.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, this model year gives you a selective but workable buying environment if you shop carefully.
The market signal points to a vehicle that can make sense when you focus on price, condition, and how the listing compares with similar examples. If you want the best value, use the available deal share to narrow your search and move quickly on strong listings.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Explorer Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a pre-purchase inspection and pay close attention to overall condition, since the best listings are likely to move quickly. Focus on maintenance records, signs of prior damage, and whether the asking price matches the vehicle's condition and mileage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Explorer Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you have room to shop, but the strongest listings still deserve quick attention.
- Deal availability: 25.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 207 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.92% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,825.37, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Ford Explorer Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $29,446 sits slightly below last year's $33,815.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can work against you if you're planning to sell soon. If you own one now, strong condition and clean history matter more because buyers have more leverage than they did a year ago. For a future seller, the best path is to keep mileage, maintenance, and presentation in top shape so your listing stands out.
Should I buy a 2022 Ford Explorer Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 25.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.92% compared with last year.
The bottom line: The 2022 is a sensible choice if you want a year with meaningful inventory and a softer price environment. If you're especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and target the cleanest, best-priced example rather than focusing on the model year alone.
