Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Buick Encore GX earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, advanced technology features, and comfortable seating, and the user summary also points to a strong compact-SUV appeal. The expert review highlights its stylish design, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard advanced safety features. The main trade-offs are its poor ride quality, cramped back seat, and weak value proposition, so it fits you best if you want a polished small crossover and can live with some space and comfort compromises. Good and great deals account for 32.3% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling compact SUV with comfort and technology that owners can count on, even if some mention the three-cylinder engine’s mixed highway performance. The expert review also describes the powertrain as surprisingly capable and the overall driving experience as drama-free. Buick’s scheduled-maintenance coverage is not highlighted in the provided data, so your best long-term protection is a careful pre-purchase inspection and a clean service history. For used buyers, the biggest ownership risk is paying too much for a vehicle that may still feel underpowered or less refined than you expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on ride quality, cabin condition, and any signs of hard use in the back seat or cargo area. If you’re comparing trims, pay close attention to which features are standard and which are bundled into packages.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim uses cloth seats, while the top Essence trim gets leather seats and LED headlights; lower trims with halogen headlights are rated less favorably.
• Powertrain: The model offers turbocharged three-cylinder engines, with a 1.2-liter unit making 137 horsepower and a 1.3-liter unit making 155 horsepower; front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: A Driver Confidence package is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: An eight-inch touchscreen is standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth audio streaming, a WiFi hotspot, front and rear USB ports, OnStar telematics, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive versions return 30 mpg combined, while all-wheel-drive versions return 27 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Buick Encore GX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Encore GX formula at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the model’s style, standard tech, and safety equipment without stretching for extras.
• Select: This is the best-value trim because it adds more flexibility, including access to the available navigation system and the larger engine option. If you want a balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the trim to focus on.
• Essence: This is the most upscale version, with standard leather seats and the stronger 1.3-liter engine. It suits you best if you want the most premium-feeling Encore GX and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is a strong part of the lineup, but headlight performance varies by trim, with the Essence rated better than the lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,079 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.90% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,941, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Buick Encore GX's resale value?

The current average of $18,941 sits slightly below last year's $20,345.

That price movement suggests the model has softened, which can work against you if you buy at the wrong point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, you’ll want to avoid overpaying now, because a lower entry price gives you more room to preserve value. The good news is that the Encore GX still has broad appeal thanks to its tech and safety equipment, which can help support demand when it’s time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX safe?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX earns five-star ratings in both frontal and side crash protection, and four stars for rollover resistance from NHTSA, plus Good ratings across IIHS crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety setup includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, Teen Driver technology, and a tire-fill alert system. The main caveat is that headlight performance varies by trim: the Essence’s LED headlights rate better than the halogen units on Preferred and Select.

Should I buy a 2022 Buick Encore GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is a carryover year with only new exterior paint colors.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $16,369, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,941 average.
• It offers a refined, quiet cabin and approachable technology.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $20,873, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $18,941 average.
• It adds a practical, easygoing crossover setup with useful space.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price and proven equipment, the 2022 is the safer default. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look; if you want a newer model-year alternative and don’t mind paying more, the 2023 is the next step up.
