How much does the 2022 Buick Encore GX cost?

Prices have softened 6.25% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,100 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Buick Encore GX earns a 4.57/5 user rating and a 7.0/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, advanced technology, and stylish design. The user feedback also points to a compact SUV that feels easy to live with, especially when you value a comfortable cabin and modern connectivity. On the downside, the expert review flags poor ride quality, a cramped back seat, and weak value for money, so it fits you best if you want a polished small crossover more than a spacious or bargain-priced one.

The market still shows 37.0% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights comfort, advanced technology, and a generally dependable everyday experience, with many owners describing it as a great compact SUV. The expert review also points to a capable powertrain and straightforward operation, which supports the sense that it should be easy to count on day to day. Buick’s standard maintenance coverage adds another ownership perk.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-equipped example can still feel expensive if condition or maintenance history is weak.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the vehicle has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on cabin condition, tire wear, brake feel, and whether the electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected. Because this model’s value depends heavily on equipment and condition, a clean, well-kept example matters more than usual.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Preferred trim uses cloth seats and halogen headlights, while the top Essence trim gets leather seats and LED headlights. That means the lower trims miss some of the more upscale touches and better lighting.
• Powertrain: You get turbocharged three-cylinder engines: a 1.2-liter unit with 137 horsepower and a 1.3-liter unit with 155 hp. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available, and FWD models use a CVT while AWD models use a nine-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The standard Driver Confidence package includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also included.
• Infotainment: An eight-inch touchscreen is standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth audio streaming, a WiFi hotspot, front and rear USB ports, OnStar telematics, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Navigation is available on Select and Essence trims.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD models return 30 mpg combined, while AWD versions get 27 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Buick Encore GX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Encore GX experience with the standard tech and safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the nicer trim-specific upgrades.
• Select: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more flexibility, including the available 1.3-liter engine and navigation. It’s the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and price.
• Essence: This is the most upscale version, with standard leather seats, the stronger 1.3-liter engine, and LED headlights. Choose it if you want the most premium-feeling Encore GX.

The Essence trim’s LED headlights avoid the lower trims’ weaker halogen setup, while the standard safety package remains a strong point across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,100 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.25% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,966, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Buick Encore GX's resale value?

The current average of $19,177 sits slightly below last year's $20,454.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Encore GX easier to buy now but a little softer for future sellers. If you own one, pricing pressure may continue unless your vehicle has especially strong condition, desirable equipment, or a clean history. Well-kept examples should still hold attention from shoppers who want a small premium-branded crossover with modern tech.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX safe?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX earns five-star ratings in both frontal and side crash protection, and four-star ratings for rollover resistance from NHTSA. It also earned the IIHS's highest-possible Good ratings in all crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard Driver Confidence package includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, and Teen Driver technology helps you monitor driving habits and set limits.

One caveat is that headlight performance varies by trim: the top Essence trim’s LED headlights earned an Acceptable rating, while Preferred and Select trims with halogen headlights earned a Marginal rating.

Should I buy a 2022 Buick Encore GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s a carryover year with standard wireless smartphone integration and strong safety equipment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $16,596, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $19,177 average.
• It offers a quieter, more refined everyday feel.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $21,093, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $19,177 average.
• It keeps the same trim structure while adding a fresh paint option.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the current-year balance of price, safety, and equipment without paying more for the next model year. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play, while the 2023 only makes sense if you specifically want the newer-year listing and don’t mind the higher asking price.
