Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Buick Encore GX earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, advanced technology, and compact-SUV practicality, and many also like the available 360 camera and comfortable seating. The main trade-offs are that some owners feel it is overpriced, and the three-cylinder engine can feel short on highway power.

For shoppers who want a stylish, tech-friendly small crossover with a premium lean, the Encore GX fits that brief well. The market also shows 36.8% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, comfortable small SUV that many owners feel good about living with over time. The review summary also highlights the model as a great compact SUV for buyers who value comfort and technology, while noting that some owners see it as overpriced.

The expert drive notes that the powertrain is surprisingly capable, which supports confidence in everyday use, even if the engine can feel buzzy. Buick also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit on the house, which helps lower early ownership friction.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is not outright durability so much as whether the vehicle’s condition and maintenance history justify the asking price.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price is near the top of the range. Focus on condition details that matter most in a small crossover: cabin wear, tire condition, and whether the equipment you want is actually present.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Preferred trim gets cloth seats, while the top Essence trim adds leather seats and LED headlights; the mid-level Select sits between them. The base trim also uses halogen headlights, which are a weaker setup than the Essence’s lighting.
• Powertrain: The 2022 Encore GX offers a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 137 horsepower and a 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 155 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available, and FWD models use a CVT while AWD models use a nine-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The Driver Confidence package is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also included.
• Infotainment: You get an eight-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth audio streaming, Buick Connected Services with a built-in WiFi hotspot, front and rear USB ports, OnStar telematics, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Navigation is available on Select and Essence trims, and built-in Amazon Alexa capability is also available.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD versions return 30 mpg combined, while AWD versions return 27 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Buick Encore GX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Encore GX experience at the lowest price. It makes the most sense if you want the model’s style, standard tech, and safety features without paying for extras.
• Select: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more convenience and tech flexibility, including available navigation and the option for the stronger 1.3-liter engine. If you want a balanced mix of price and equipment, this is the one to focus on.
• Essence: This is the most upscale version, with standard leather seats, the 1.3-liter engine, and LED headlights. It suits you best if you want the most premium-feeling Encore GX and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the Essence’s LED headlights are a meaningful advantage over the lower trims’ halogen units.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,933 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,806, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Buick Encore GX's resale value?

The current average of $18,806 sits slightly below last year's $20,222.

That decline suggests the Encore GX has softened in the used market, which can be a mixed signal for future resale. On one hand, lower current prices may help you buy in at a better value today. On the other hand, a model that has already moved down in price can leave less room for appreciation if market conditions stay soft.

For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should be easier to move than rougher ones, especially if they are priced competitively.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX safe?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX earns the maximum five stars for overall crash protection from NHTSA and Good ratings from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Encore GX comes standard with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, following-distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. Teen Driver technology and a tire-fill alert system are also included.

One caveat is that the lower Preferred and Select trims use halogen headlights, which IIHS rated Marginal, while the Essence trim’s LED headlights earned an Acceptable rating. That makes the top trim the safer pick if lighting performance matters to you.

Should I buy a 2022 Buick Encore GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is a complete carryover with only new exterior paint colors.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $16,248, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,806 average.
• It offers a more upscale feel with strong tech and comfort.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $20,631, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $18,806 average.
• It keeps the same trim structure with a straightforward lineup.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the current-year model at a softer price and with no major changes to chase. If you are price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want the newest version and do not mind paying more, the 2023 is the cleaner alternative.
