Used 2022 BMW iX for Sale nearNew York, NY

Is the 2022 BMW iX a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW iX earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.

BMW positions the iX as its first all-electric SUV for North America, and the data backs up that upscale mission: it’s a large crossover that prioritizes space and luxury over maximum efficiency. In expert testing, it stands out for great ride quality, impressive electric range, and a comfortable cabin, which makes it a strong fit if you want an EV that feels relaxed rather than overly aggressive.

The trade-offs are clear, though. The design is potentially polarizing, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the market shows 33.0% of listings are good or great deals, which suggests there’s at least some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 BMW iX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

BMW’s test-drive notes point to a refined, well-executed electric SUV rather than a complicated high-strung one. The iX uses a dual-motor AWD setup, and the performance notes emphasize smooth, immediate torque delivery, strong body control, and a quiet cabin. That combination usually supports an easy ownership experience when the vehicle has been maintained properly.

BMW also includes three years or 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery and charging system have been treated well, since EV ownership depends heavily on battery health and charging habits.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW iX?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this is a premium EV with advanced electronics and a high-value battery pack. Focus on overall condition, charging behavior, and whether the car has been used mostly for home charging or frequent DC fast charging. You’ll also want to confirm that the battery and software-related systems are functioning normally.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The iX’s styling is intentionally polarizing, and the base setup does not include all advanced safety features. If you want a more complete driver-assistance setup, look closely at how the equipped safety content compares with the standard list.
• Powertrain: The launch version uses a dual-motor AWD powertrain with 516 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque. It’s quick, refined, and tuned more for smooth acceleration than for sporty handling.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with vehicle, pedestrian, and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Evasion Assist, and Speed Limit Assist. Driving Assistant Professional adds lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, while parking aids are optional.
• Infotainment: The iX uses BMW’s iDrive 8 with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and OTA software updates.
• Range & charging: The xDrive50 has 324 miles of EPA-rated range with the standard wheels and a 105.2-kWh usable battery capacity. BMW says DC fast charging can take it from 10% to 40% in about 40 minutes.
• Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, ask how the car was typically charged, and review remaining battery warranty coverage. A used EV is best when it has a clean charging history and no signs of abnormal range loss.

Which 2022 BMW iX trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW iX is offered in 1 trim level: xDrive50.

Here's the short version:

The xDrive50: is the only 2022 iX trim, so your decision is really about equipment and options rather than trim stepping. It already brings the core appeal of the model: strong range, dual-motor AWD performance, a luxurious cabin, and BMW’s latest iDrive 8 interface. If you want the best value, this is also the best-value trim by default because there isn’t a lower or higher standard version to compare against. Optional upgrades can add more comfort and convenience, but the base xDrive50 is the one to shop.

The safety package is not fully loaded at the base level, so pay close attention to whether the specific vehicle includes the optional driver-assistance features you want.

Is the 2022 BMW iX safe?

The 2022 BMW iX has not been published with IIHS or NHTSA crash-test ratings.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include forward collision warning with vehicle, pedestrian, and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Evasion Assist, and Speed Limit Assist. Optional Driving Assistant Professional adds lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and BMW also offers parking sensors, Parking Assistant Plus, and Back-Up Assistant.

A key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW iX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW’s first North American all-electric SUV pairs strong range with a comfortable, luxury-focused ride.

Consider the 2023 if:

• It adds the more powerful M60 variant with much stronger acceleration.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the original iX formula: luxury, range, and comfort in a single electric SUV. If you’re willing to spend more for extra performance, the 2023 is the better path; if value matters most, the 2022’s market position and available inventory make it the smarter buy.
