How much does the 2022 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 11.21% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,305 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW X3 earns a 4.92/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its comfortable ride, stylish design, and high-quality features, and they also call out the quiet performance and added safety equipment. The X3’s refreshed setup fits buyers who want a luxury compact crossover with broad appeal, everyday usability, and a premium feel.

The trade-offs are straightforward: the base engine is underwhelming, and fuel economy is poor. Even so, the X3 still lands as a well-rounded choice if you want a spacious luxury SUV with strong feature content and a polished road presence.

The market backs that up, with 39.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.92/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers’ feedback points to a comfortable, quiet, and dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the X3’s high-quality features and overall refinement. The expert drive notes also describe the base model as quick enough for freeway traffic, quiet in daily use, and compliant over bumps, which supports the impression of a trouble-free daily driver.

BMW also includes a broad set of standard safety and convenience features that can make ownership feel easier over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that premium-vehicle upkeep can be more expensive than on mainstream rivals, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or vehicles with added equipment. Focus on overall condition, because luxury features and advanced electronics can be costly to sort out later.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X3 sDrive30i is the only rear-wheel-drive model, while the other trims are all-wheel drive only. The lineup also adds M Sport styling on some trims, and the M40i brings more performance-oriented exterior cues and standard equipment.
• Powertrain: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The M40i upgrades to a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system and 382 hp.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, and side collision avoidance.
• Infotainment: Standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 5.1-inch color display instrument panel, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, over-the-air updates, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. An available upgrade expands both screens to 12.3 inches.
• Fuel efficiency: The sDrive30i is rated at 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The xDrive30i returns 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The M40i is rated at 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and M.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the entry point and the only rear-wheel-drive version. It gives you the core X3 experience with the standard turbo-four, strong tech, and the full suite of standard safety features, making it the value play if you want the lowest starting price.
• xDrive30i: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same core equipment and efficiency-minded turbo-four setup. If you want the most balanced mix of traction, features, and price, this is the one to target.
• M40i: This is the clear step up if you want more power and a more engaging drive. It adds the turbocharged six-cylinder, the mild-hybrid system, and more standard luxury and convenience equipment, so it suits you if performance matters more than saving at the pump.
• M: This is the most performance-focused version in the lineup, so it makes sense if you want the most aggressive X3 character and are shopping for the top-end experience.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the available driver-assistance upgrades add even more capability if you want maximum coverage.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,305 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.21% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,451, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $28,451 sits slightly below last year's $32,044.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that pricing momentum has softened, so holding the vehicle longer may matter if you want to recover more value later.

Condition and equipment will matter a lot at resale, especially on a premium SUV like this one. Well-kept examples with desirable features should remain easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 safe?

The 2022 BMW X3 earns a five-star crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, and side collision avoidance.

The X3 was previously named a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS for earlier model years, but current crash test results for this model year were not yet available in the source material.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 refresh adds more technology and an expanded suite of safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,070, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,451 average.
• It offers a spacious interior and broad technology appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the newer refresh, stronger safety content, and a market that currently favors shoppers, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in strong condition with the equipment you want.
