Overview

BMW’s crossover lineup has expanded in recent years to include seven different models, ranging from the smallest and least expensive X1 to the extravagant X7. On the small end of the spectrum is the X2, which gets only a few trim-level feature updates for the 2022 model year.
BMW offers the X2 in three configurations: sDrive28i, xDrive28i, and M35i. The first two models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 228 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, and xDrive models come with all-wheel drive (AWD). The X2 M35i gets the same engine, though here it produces 301 hp. The M35i also gets standard AWD.
Those powertrains will be good enough to provide stout acceleration for the small X2. The xDrive28i can run from zero to 60 mph in a little bit over six seconds, while the hotter M35i does it in under five seconds, according to BMW. The M35i also gets a novel front axle differential that BMW says will improve handling on everything from tight corners to in-town cruises.
All X2 models leave the factory with a solid list of equipment that includes 18-inch wheels, synthetic leather upholstery, Apple CarPlay compatibility, Bluetooth and USB inputs, a premium 205-watt sound system, SiriusXM radio, adaptive cruise control, an 8.8-inch touchscreen, voice controls, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, power seats, dual-zone climate controls, a power liftgate, forward collision warnings, lane departure warnings, speed limit info, and a parking-distance sensor system. The M35i adds sporty features, such as 20-inch wheels, M Sport brakes, M Sport interior trim, M Sport suspension, and M Sport steering.
The 2022 BMW X2 hasn’t been crash-tested yet, but its predecessor scored top “Good” marks in most tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The two vehicles are nearly identical, so test results for the newer model year should be similar. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hasn’t rated the 2022 X2 either.
The 2022 BMW X2 is on sale now, and carries a starting price of $37,595 for the base sDrive28i, which includes $995 for destination. The xDrive28i starts at $39,595 and the range-topping M35i starts at $47,445.

How much does the 2022 BMW X2 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,571 |
| Year-Round Low | $20,231.31 |
| Year-Round High | $24,782.82 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,896 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −13.91% |
Prices have softened 13.91% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 127 listings available, which suggests you have some room to compare prices and condition across the market.
If you find a listing below $20,231.31, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 BMW X2 a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for the 2022 BMW X2.
That kind of feedback suggests you may be looking at a model year that has resonated well with drivers, especially if you want a used luxury crossover with broad appeal.
29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a meaningful chance to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 BMW X2 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
For used buyers, that usually means you should focus less on broad reputation and more on how well a specific example has been maintained, because condition and service history will drive your ownership risk.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X2?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still review the history report carefully and prioritize any signs of prior damage, inconsistent maintenance, or repeated repairs. A pre-purchase inspection is especially useful if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, service records, and whether the vehicle has been kept up consistently.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X2?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 127 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.91% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 76.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,231.31, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 BMW X2's resale value?
The current average of $20,571 sits slightly below last year's $23,896.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on how well your vehicle stands out on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. If you buy well now and keep the car in strong shape, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 BMW X2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current pricing, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2022 is the primary year to focus on. If you're especially price-sensitive, keep comparing nearby years and use the softer pricing trend to push for a better deal on the cleanest example you can find.
