Is the 2022 Audi A4 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Audi A4 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

The A4 stands out as a luxury sports sedan that still feels fresh, with a rock-solid structure and modern technology that keep it competitive well into its life cycle. It is also fun to drive, and its technology is a highlight.

The trade-offs are that the base engine is underwhelming and the back seat is cramped, so you may want to look elsewhere if rear-seat space or entry-level punch matters most to you.

With 38.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is meaningful room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Audi A4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The A4’s rock-solid structure and well-executed technology support its reputation as a polished used luxury sedan. Its performance setup is refined, and the car’s overall execution still feels current despite its age.

The available information also points to a car that remains appealing because it combines premium features with a strong driving experience. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that you should pay close attention to condition and maintenance history, especially on higher-spec examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Audi A4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can confirm the condition of the drivetrain, electronics, and safety systems. Focus on how the car presents overall, since trim level and equipment can change the ownership experience a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The A4 lineup includes the A4 sedan, the A4 Allroad, and an S4 performance-tuned model, while the reviewed A4 comes in 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI model series and Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels. The base setup is the least powerful, while higher trims add more equipment and the Prestige model brings the fullest safety and convenience content.
• Powertrain: The 40 TFSI uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, while the 45 TFSI brings 261 hp and 273 lb-ft. Both use a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic and standard Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive, and the more powerful version is the better fit if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Audi Pre Sense includes front and rear collision preparation, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The test vehicle also had lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a safe exit warning system, a surround-view camera system, Park Assist, and Matrix-design LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation. The more you spend, the more of this equipment you get.
• Infotainment: The A4 uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Audi Connect connected services, wireless smartphone charging, and a navigation system. It also supports swipe, scroll, pinch, and spread inputs, and the interface includes acoustic feedback.
• Fuel efficiency: The 40 TFSI earns an EPA fuel economy rating of 29 mpg in combined driving, while the 45 TFSI is rated at 27 mpg combined. The test vehicle averaged 24.8 mpg during evaluation.

Which 2022 Audi A4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Audi A4 is offered in 6 trim levels: A4 sedan, A4 Allroad, S4, 40 TFSI, 45 TFSI, and Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• A4 sedan: This is the core body style if you want the standard A4 experience, but the available information points you toward higher-spec versions if you want the strongest mix of equipment and performance.
• A4 Allroad: This wagon variant adds SUV-style cues and a slightly higher ride height, so it suits you if you want a more versatile shape without leaving the A4 family.
• S4: This is the performance-tuned model with a more powerful engine, so it is the right choice if you want the sportiest version in the lineup.
• 40 TFSI: This is the least expensive route into the A4, but the base engine is underwhelming, so it makes the most sense if price matters more than acceleration.
• 45 TFSI: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds much stronger performance while keeping the A4’s core strengths intact.
• Prestige: This is the fully loaded version, and it is the trim to choose if you want the most complete safety and convenience equipment.

The Prestige trim carries the fullest safety package, including Audi Pre Sense, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Park Assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Audi A4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 621 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.13% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,336, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Audi A4's resale value?

The current average of $22,336 sits slightly below last year's $26,319.

That price movement suggests the A4 has already absorbed a meaningful chunk of its depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you choose a well-kept example with desirable equipment, you may have a better chance of holding value than if you buy a stripped or neglected car.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Audi A4 safe?

The 2022 Audi A4 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre Sense includes front and rear collision preparation, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The test vehicle also had lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a safe exit warning system, a surround-view camera system, Park Assist, and Matrix-design LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.

One caveat is that the adaptive cruise control can react a bit slowly in changing traffic, so you should stay engaged even when the driver-assistance tech is active.

Should I buy a 2022 Audi A4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.13% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model stands out for feeling fresh, with a rock-solid structure, modern technology, and great safety ratings.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want a used A4 that still feels current and offers strong safety, technology, and driving appeal. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2022 is a strong target when you want the best balance of value and equipment.
