Aston Martin may have had its ups and downs over the years, especially in motorsport, but the brand has built a legacy of performance and excitement that still lives in its cars today. Not surprisingly, Aston responded to the massive interest in SUVs by building its own. The Aston Martin DBX is the brand’s first utility vehicle.

Though the DBX is Aston Martin’s first SUV, it’s not light on the performance, sounds, or styling that made all of the brand’s cars so sought after. The SUV is built in the company’s facility in Wales and rides on an all-new platform. The DBX features a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that makes 542 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Power hits all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. The engine uses cylinder deactivation to save fuel on the highway, but it's still capable of moving the SUV from zero to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and to a top speed of 181 mph.

The Aston’s all-wheel drive system features an active center differential and an electronic limited slip rear differential, which can shift power between the axles and rear wheels as needed to improve traction. Adaptive air suspension is standard, offering variable spring stiffness. An electronic anti-roll system provides up to 1,032 pound-feet of force per axle to help control body movements during spirited driving. The system works when the vehicle is completely loaded and can act as a leveler for the vehicle.

The DBX’s interior is available in a huge variety of colors and finishes, including dozens of primary colors, a large selection of secondary or accent colors, headliner colors, and more. Aston offers accessories for pets, golf, biking, snow, and field sports. There’s also an event package with seats, a picnic blanket, and an umbrella strap.

All of that said, don’t think that the DBX is a cream puff with no usable interior space like every other Aston Martin. It offers 22 cubic feet of cargo space and a 40/20/40 folding rear seat. Cargo space isn’t tremendous, at just 22 cubic feet, but it’s manageable. A Toyota RAV4, by comparison, offers 37.5 cubic feet of space.

Aston gives every DBX a 12.3-inch driver information display and a 10.25-inch touchscreen. Apple Carplay is standard, along with a surround-view camera system and ambient interior lighting that provides 64 color choices.
