Summary

Why it stands out
The 2021 Tesla Model S stands out as a major turning point for the model, because it received Tesla’s “Palladium” refresh with minor exterior changes, an all-new interior, and a yoke steering wheel. It also brought an overhauled powertrain with a new battery pack and motors that increased efficiency, range, and power. For buyers, that combination makes the 2021 Model S feel especially modern: it pairs Tesla’s long-running reputation for advanced technology with a cabin and hardware update that pushed the car further into high-performance luxury territory.
Performance is a core part of the appeal. The base Long Range version uses dual electric motors and all-wheel drive, while the Plaid version adds three electric motors and standard AWD, with 1,020 horsepower. Range is listed at 405 miles for the Long Range model and 348 miles for the Plaid. Standard equipment is also generous, including vegan leatherette seats, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive air suspension, a glass roof, wireless phone charging, a premium 22-speaker, 560-watt audio system, adaptive cruise control, and a blind spot monitor. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available, and some shoppers may still be put off by the yoke steering wheel, but the 2021 Model S remains compelling for its speed, technology, and upscale feature set.

If your looking for the absolute best tech in a vehicle, you will find it in a Tesla. I felt the year, miles, and condition was a fair price. It is extremely hard to compare any Tesla to any other vehicle brands out there. Tesla did a very good job at being original. This is my second Tesla . My first was a Model 3 Performance and now I have a Model S Plaid. For me, it would be very hard to go back to the other brands.

The car is fantastic, truly unlike any other car, and it just gets better with updates. I’m neutral on the yoke, but I will probably replace it at some point. Aside from the steering. wheel/yoke, it is the best car that I’ve ever driven. Between the auto pilot and full self driving, to the media , safety features, and incredible acceleration, I simply don’t think there is a better car you can buy.

2021 marked the first re-fresh of the Model S since its inception. My previous Model S was a 2016 P90D ludicrous. The 2021 felt like an entirely different car. With several major upgrades: • The seats were substantially upgraded providing more stability during cornering, heating and cooling seat ventilation was added. The whole interior was upgraded. • New “ductless” HVAC system that allows you to direct air virtually anywhere—crazy. • The dash was shortened to move the driver closer to the windshield increasing visibility • The suspension was improved with more options to customize. • The sound system was significantly upgraded to 950+ watts and 23 speakers—it is truly an amazing sound that rivals any headphones I have used. • Significantly quieter cabin with a new window system and self-cancelling noise reduction that lowers tire noise.

Yes — the 2021 Tesla Model S earns a 5/5 user rating, and owners consistently praise its incredible acceleration, high-end interior quality, and state-of-the-art technology. It also fits especially well if you want a modern electric luxury sedan with a performance-first personality, since the refresh brought an all-new interior and updated hardware. The market shows 30.5% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Tesla Model S reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free in the ways that matter most for everyday use, with strong confidence in the car’s long-term ownership experience. That said, used buyers should still think carefully about battery health, software-related quirks, and overall condition so you can reduce long-term ownership risk.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Tesla Model S?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a thorough inspection of the car’s condition, especially signs of prior damage or inconsistent maintenance. Because this model leans heavily on advanced technology, you should also pay close attention to how the interior, controls, and major systems feel in real-world use. A careful test drive and a close look at the vehicle’s overall condition can help you avoid surprises later.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Tesla Model S?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

What is the 2021 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $46,643 sits slightly above last year's $46,296.
That kind of stability suggests the market has been willing to support this model year without major price swings. For you as a future seller, that can be a positive sign because steady pricing often points to consistent demand rather than a rapidly weakening market. The refresh-era appeal, combined with strong owner satisfaction, can help keep buyer interest healthy over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the refreshed version with the updated interior, stronger performance hardware, and a market that still looks reasonably balanced, the 2021 is the primary year to target. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth considering, but you should expect to trade away some of the refresh-era appeal and current-market stability that make the 2021 especially compelling.
