How much does the 2021 RAM 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 7.49% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 9,702 listings available, which gives you a healthy pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2021 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 RAM 1500 earns a 4.73/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the refined driving experience, smooth ride, high-quality interior, and impressive infotainment system. The truck also gets credit for powerful engine performance and advanced technology features, which helps it feel more polished than a basic workhorse.

The trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the fact that advanced safety features are not standard. That means you may need to shop carefully if you want more equipment without moving up the trim ladder.

For you, that makes the 2021 RAM 1500 especially appealing if you want a full-size pickup with comfort, personality, and strong tech rather than a stripped-down utility truck. Good and great deals account for 35.2% of listings, so there is still room to find a well-priced example.

Is the 2021 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels refined, smooth, and high-quality over time, with many drivers also calling out the powerful engine performance and advanced technology as strengths they can count on. That kind of praise suggests the truck delivers a dependable ownership experience for shoppers who value comfort and consistency.

The expert evaluation also reinforces that impression by emphasizing the truck’s overall refinement and strong road manners. If you are buying used, the main long-term risk is less about the truck’s core appeal and more about making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained well and equipped the way you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 RAM 1500?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every truck you consider, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the suspension, brakes, electronics, and any off-road or towing-related wear. Focus on condition and equipment level, since this truck’s appeal depends heavily on how well it was optioned.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans work-truck and luxury-oriented versions, with the TRX standing out as the most extreme performance-focused model. Base-trim buyers should pay close attention to feature gaps, especially because advanced safety features are not standard.
• Powertrain: The standard truck is described as having an underwhelming base engine, while the TRX uses a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The TRX also posts 10 mpg city, 14 highway, 12 combined mpg.
• Safety package: The available Advanced Safety Group adds a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. Some of these features are not standard, so trim choice matters.
• Infotainment: A 12-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 4C, navigation, wireless charging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air-style personalization features gives the truck a strong tech advantage.
• Fuel efficiency: The TRX returns 10 mpg city, 14 highway, 12 combined mpg.

Which 2021 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 RAM 1500 is offered in 10 trim levels: Tradesman, TRX, and TRX Launch Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and a straightforward full-size pickup. It makes sense if you care more about utility than luxury, but you should expect fewer features than the higher trims.
• TRX: This is the standout choice if you want the most extreme performance and off-road capability in the lineup. It pairs the supercharged V8 with serious hardware and the most dramatic personality, but it is also the least practical on fuel.
• TRX Launch Edition: This is the special-edition version for buyers who want the TRX experience with added exclusivity. It is the most niche choice and best suited to shoppers who value rarity as much as capability.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you may need to move up or add packages to get the equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,702 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.49% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,185, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $30,185 sits slightly below last year's $32,630.

That price movement suggests the truck has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you are buying now and may soften the hit if you sell later. A lower current average versus last year also means future resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Because the market still shows solid demand and a broad listing pool, well-kept trucks should remain easier to move than neglected ones. If you buy a desirable trim with strong equipment and keep it clean, you improve your odds of holding value better than average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is offered with more than 100 safety and security features, but crash-test safety ratings from IIHS and NHTSA are not yet available.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Advanced Safety Group includes a 360-degree camera system with forward-facing views, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. A digital rear-view mirror is part of the Advanced Tech Group, and other available features include adaptive headlights, hill-start assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer sway control, lane-departure warning, and front and rear park assistance with automatic braking.

A key caveat is that these features cost extra, so you should not assume a used truck has them just because it is a higher trim. If safety equipment matters to you, verify the exact package content before you buy.

Should I buy a 2021 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.49% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the TRX, giving the lineup a new high-performance off-road flagship.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,638, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $30,185 average.
• It brings back the EcoDiesel across the lineup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,850, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $30,185 average.
• It further refines the truck’s balance of comfort, utility, and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, satisfaction, and feature-rich appeal, the 2021 is the best all-around target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you are willing to pay more for a newer model-year alternative.
