How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost?

Prices have softened 2.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 754 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its performance, visibility, and design, and the G-Class stands out for its unmistakable presence and luxury feel. The overview also frames it as a five-passenger, body-on-frame SUV with standard all-wheel drive, which helps explain why it appeals to you if you want serious capability wrapped in a luxury package.

The trade-offs are clear: poor handling and poor fuel economy are the main drawbacks, and cargo space is limited. Even so, the market signal is encouraging, with 34.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, impressive, and dependable enough to earn strong owner loyalty. The expert write-up also emphasizes that the G-Class is a very capable, impressive, fun-to-drive vehicle, which supports the idea that it can be a satisfying long-term ownership choice if you want something distinctive.

Mercedes-Benz includes two years or 20,000 miles of Star Service covering two factory-scheduled maintenance services, which helps reduce early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that upkeep and repairs can be expensive if the truck has been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-specific check. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension, brakes, electronics, and signs of hard use, since this is a heavy, high-performance SUV. Pay close attention to condition and maintenance records, especially if the truck has been driven as a status vehicle rather than a utility vehicle.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The G-Class lineup includes the Mercedes-Benz G550 and the Mercedes-AMG G63. The G550 is the more accessible choice, while the G63 adds more power and a higher starting price. If you want the best-value path, the G550 is the trim to focus on.
• Powertrain: The G550 uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive. It also includes Dynamic Select driving programs, including G-mode for more assertive off-roading.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The lane-keeping system can feel abrupt, so you should understand how it behaves before relying on it.
• Infotainment: The cabin features a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment screen, a matching 12.3-inch virtual instrument panel, Bluetooth hands-free and streaming audio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and WiFi. Wireless device charging is not included.
• Fuel efficiency: The G550 is rated at 13 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is offered in 2 trim levels: G550 and G63.

Here's the short version:

• G550: This is the trim to target if you want the core G-Class experience without jumping to the highest price point. It delivers the twin-turbo V8, permanent 4WD, the signature boxy design, and the full set of standard driver-assistance features, making it the best-value choice for most shoppers.
• G63: Choose this if you want the more powerful, more expensive version and are willing to pay for the extra performance and prestige. It sits above the G550 and is the right pick if you want the top-end expression of the G-Class formula.

The standard safety package includes rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 754 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $136,202, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

The current average of $136,301 sits slightly below last year's $139,344.

That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, the softer trend means you should pay close attention to purchase price and condition, because those factors will matter more when you go to resell. The G-Class still has strong appeal thanks to its distinctive design and owner satisfaction, which helps support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class has not been rated for crash-worthiness or safety by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. One caveat is that the lane-keeping system can feel abrupt when it intervenes, so you should understand its behavior before depending on it.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model combines the classic G-Class shape with modern luxury, strong performance, and standard all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $120,374, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $136,301 average.
• It blends serious ruggedness with luxury and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current-market availability, owner satisfaction, and the 2021 model's distinctive luxury-capable character, the 2021 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter price-sensitive alternative, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
