How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost?

Prices have softened 2.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 766 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its performance, visibility, and design, and the G-Class’s distinctive luxury-and-rugged character comes through clearly in the overview. The trade-offs are just as clear: poor handling and poor fuel economy are part of the package, and cargo space is limited.

With its five-passenger layout, body-on-frame construction, and standard all-wheel drive, it fits you best if you want a luxury SUV with serious presence and capability rather than everyday practicality. It also sits in a market where 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels luxurious and impressive, and it also highlights the kind of performance and design that tend to keep owners happy over time. That same feedback suggests you can count on it to deliver the distinctive experience buyers expect from a G-Class.

The expert review also describes it as a very capable, impressive, fun-to-drive vehicle, which reinforces the sense that it is built to satisfy buyers who value character and capability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that its premium nature can make upkeep and repairs expensive if prior maintenance has been inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace documentation. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one that has been used for off-road driving. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of heavy use, since this is a vehicle that can attract enthusiastic owners.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The G-Class lineup includes the G550 and the Mercedes-AMG G63. The G550 is the more approachable choice, while the G63 adds more power and a more opulent feel.
• Powertrain: The G550 uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Active lane-keeping assist can feel abrupt.
• Infotainment: The cabin features twin 12.3-inch displays, Bluetooth hands-free and streaming audio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and standard WiFi. Wireless device charging is not provided.
• Fuel efficiency: The G550 is rated at 13 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is offered in 2 trim levels: G550 and Mercedes-AMG G63.

Here's the short version:

• G550: This is the trim that makes the most sense for most used buyers. You still get the G-Class’s signature design, standard all-wheel drive, the twin-turbo V8, and the full luxury-and-tech experience, but at the lower starting price. It is the best-value choice if you want the core G-Class personality without stretching to the top end.
• Mercedes-AMG G63: Choose this if you want the most powerful and most extravagant version of the G-Class. It adds a stronger V8 and a more over-the-top luxury feel, but it comes with a much higher price tag.

Safety content notes that the G550 includes a broad standard driver-assistance suite, while the G63 shares key systems such as active lane-keeping assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 766 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $135,272, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

The current average of $135,286 sits slightly below last year's $138,613.

That softer pricing trend suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the G-Class’s distinctive image and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand over time.

For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, because premium SUVs like this tend to reward clean history and careful ownership. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class has not been rated for crash-worthiness or safety by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. One caveat is that active lane-keeping assist can feel abrupt when it intervenes, so you should understand how it behaves before relying on it.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 keeps the G-Class formula intact with standard all-wheel drive, strong performance, and the distinctive luxury-rugged character buyers want.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $118,794, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $135,286 average.
• It blends ruggedness with luxury and technology while handling surprisingly well.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current inventory, softened pricing, and the full G-Class experience, the 2021 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the model’s core appeal.
