How much does the 2021 MINI Cooper cost?

Prices have softened 4.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 355 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 MINI Cooper a good car?

Yes — the 2021 MINI Cooper earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 7/10.

Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, sporty performance, and modern technology. The user feedback also points to a comfortable and well-equipped interior, along with the practicality of the four-door design for shoppers who want a little more everyday usability.

The trade-offs are clear: it is not the most practical choice, and it can feel minimalist on features depending on what you expect. The overview also frames it as a car for buyers who want personality and driving enjoyment more than maximum utility.

Good and great deals account for 38.6% of listings, so you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2021 MINI Cooper reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that owners enjoy living with over time, especially for its fun driving character and modern tech. The expert evaluation also describes the MINI as spritely and energetic, which supports the sense that it delivers a consistent ownership experience rather than feeling dull or disposable.

Mini’s warranty coverage includes a four-year/50,000-mile powertrain warranty and a four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty, which helps with early ownership confidence.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s charm comes with compromises in space, ergonomics, and value.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 MINI Cooper?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not universal. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially if you plan to use the car daily and want to avoid surprises with wear, electronics, or prior damage. Focus on condition inside the cabin as well, since the MINI’s tight packaging can make small issues feel bigger in day-to-day use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model brings the MINI’s signature styling and a 6.5-inch screen, but the available 8.8-inch display adds SiriusXM satellite radio and Apple CarPlay. Higher trims and options can also bring features like automatic climate controls, LED headlights, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
• Powertrain: You get four powertrain options, starting with a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder with 134 horsepower. Above that are turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder setups with 189 hp, 228 hp, and 301 hp, and the turbo-four models pull harder at highway speeds.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and rear parking sensors. Front parking sensors, parking assistance, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning are optional.
• Infotainment: The base screen is 6.5 inches, while the available 8.8-inch unit adds SiriusXM satellite radio and Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is not offered, and MINI uses a physical iDrive controller alongside touch input.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient configuration is the Convertible at 28/37/31 mpg city/highway/combined. The Cooper S Convertible returns 23/32/26 mpg.

Which 2021 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2021 MINI Cooper is offered in 4 trim levels: Cooper, Cooper S, John Cooper Works, John Cooper Works GP.

Here's the short version:

• Cooper: This is the entry point, and it gives you the MINI experience with the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, a six-speed manual, and the core styling and personality that define the car. It makes the most sense if you want the look and feel without chasing higher performance.
• Cooper S: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with 189 horsepower, which should feel noticeably stronger in everyday driving. If you want the sweet spot between price and punch, this is the trim to target.
• John Cooper Works: This trim steps up to a 228-hp turbo-four and is aimed at buyers who want a more serious performance edge. It suits you if driving enjoyment matters more than comfort or practicality.
• John Cooper Works GP: This is the most extreme version, with a 301-hp turbo-four and an eight-speed automatic. It is the right pick if you want the quickest, most aggressive MINI Cooper in the lineup.

Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and rear parking sensors, while other driver-assistance features remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 MINI Cooper?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 355 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.72% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,601, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $20,608 sits slightly below last year's $21,629.

That decline suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also temper near-term resale upside. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing trend means your return will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car is equipped.

The MINI’s strong personality can help it stand out in the used market, especially if you keep it clean and well maintained. But because value for money is already a known weakness, resale performance will likely reward the best-kept examples more than average ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 MINI Cooper safe?

The 2021 MINI Cooper missed out on a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It earns Good crash-test ratings, but headlights are rated Acceptable or Poor, and the LATCH system earns a Marginal rating for ease of use.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance features are forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and rear parking sensors. Front parking sensors, parking assistance, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning are optional.

The mixed headlight results and the marginal LATCH score are the main caveats to keep in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2021 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings back a manual transmission option and adds several new features.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $18,679, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $20,608 average.
• It adds an electric powertrain option.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,082, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $20,608 average.
• It expands personalization with more premium small-car positioning.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and the 2021 updates, this model year makes sense. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2020 is the better value play, while the 2022 is worth considering only if you want the newer premium direction and are willing to pay more.
