How much does the 2021 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 12.74% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,252 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Kia Sorento earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, safety features, value for money, spacious interior, and advanced technology. The Sorento’s slightly smaller footprint also makes it easier to maneuver than some larger three-row SUVs, which fits buyers who want family utility without something overly bulky.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, and the third row is cramped. It also sits close in price to the Telluride, which can make the value equation less straightforward.

With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for comfort, safety, and value. The Sorento’s performance notes also emphasize a smooth, comfortable ride and a drivetrain that handles merging, cruising, and passing well when equipped with the turbocharged setup.

Kia also includes a competitive ownership story on the efficiency side, with the non-hybrid model positioned as moderately fuel-efficient for the segment. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy family use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Sorento?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free status is only one part of the picture. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the third row, seat wear, and any signs that the vehicle was used heavily as a family hauler. It also makes sense to focus on trim-specific equipment, since some desirable comfort and tech features are reserved for higher trims.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX trim has a weaker six-way driver adjustment and only 4-way front-passenger adjustment, while other trims add 10-way driver adjustment with power lumbar support; heated seats are available on all but the LX, and ventilation is reserved for the SX Prestige with the X-Line package.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder delivers 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver-attention warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, lane-following assist, and auto high beams.
• Infotainment: The standard 8-inch touchscreen on LX, S, and EX trims supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the 10.25-inch screen on SX and SX Prestige trims requires a wired connection for smartphone projection.
• Fuel efficiency: The naturally aspirated front-wheel-drive model is rated at 24 mpg city and 29 highway, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 23/25/24. The turbocharged front-wheel-drive model is rated at 22/29/25, and the all-wheel-drive turbo is rated at 21/28/24.

Which 2021 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Sorento is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX, SX Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Sorento experience with the standard 2.5-liter engine, the 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and can live without the extra comfort features found higher up.
• S: This trim adds a more appealing everyday setup than the LX, including the upgraded driver-seat adjustment and the broader comfort equipment that starts appearing beyond the base model. It is the better value if you want a more complete family SUV without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• EX: This is the trim to target if you want a stronger balance of equipment and value, since it builds on the midrange comfort and tech story without pushing all the way to the premium end. It is the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• SX: This trim brings the larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a more upscale feel, making it a good fit if tech presentation matters to you. It also moves you closer to the more premium cabin experience.
• SX Prestige: This is the most luxurious version, with the richest interior materials and the most comfort-focused equipment, including the available ventilation setup when paired with the X-Line package. Choose it if you want the most upscale Sorento and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but the more affordable LX, S, and EX trims use headlights that received a poor rating.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,252 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.74% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,075, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $20,075 sits slightly below last year's $23,004.

That decline suggests the Sorento has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to move a vehicle. If you plan to sell later, the current trend points to a market that is still adjusting downward rather than one that is rapidly appreciating.

The good news is that strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when you eventually list the vehicle. Well-equipped, well-kept examples should remain easier to market than less desirable trims or higher-mileage vehicles.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2021 Kia Sorento earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver-attention warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, lane-following assist, and auto high beams. Adaptive cruise control is also part of the package and is described as smooth in operation.

There is one important caveat: the more affordable LX, S, and EX trims received a poor rating for their LED reflector headlights. If safety is a top priority, that trim-level difference matters.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned body, strong styling, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,059, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $20,075 average.
• It adds a standard 10.25-inch infotainment system on most trims.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the lower price and still want the redesigned Sorento’s style, tech, and safety equipment. If you can stretch for a newer model and want the upgraded infotainment setup, the 2022 is worth a look.

How does the 2021 Kia Sorento compare to the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2021 Kia Sorento:

• Pros: Stylish design, Impressive technology, Standard advanced safety features.
• Cons: Priced too close to the Telluride, Cramped third row, Underwhelming base engine.

2021 Hyundai Santa Fe:

• Pros: Stylish design, Impressive technology, Comfortable.
• Cons: Underwhelming base engine.

Our experts score the 2021 Kia Sorento 7.7/10 and the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe 8.7/10. The Sorento has the stronger safety story and a more modern three-row setup, but its cramped third row and pricing overlap with the Telluride weaken its case. The Santa Fe scores higher overall and is the more comfortable choice, though it shares the same underwhelming base engine.
