Overview

The Kia Sedona, last refreshed in 2018, carries over mostly unchanged for 2021. The minivan segment may be a niche market, but it’s full of tough competition like the Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Odyssey, and Toyota Sienna.
None of those options, including the Sedona, are likely to win over buyers based on looks, but so be it. The Sedona wears Kia’s current corporate nose, with a big, black, honeycomb-like grille pattern, and the side and rear are pretty plain, but it’s better to blend in than to stand out for being unattractive. Here, the Sedona strikes just the right balance.
Every Sedona gets a 3.3-liter V6 rated for 276 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque, plus an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Fuel economy ratings are 18 mpg city, 24 highway, and 21 combined.
Trim levels include L, LX, EX, and SX. Seating for eight comes standard, and second row captain’s chairs, which reduce capacity to seven, are available. Other standard features include Slide-N-Stow second-row seats, manual sliding doors, and cloth upholstery. The LX model adds power sliding doors and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat. The EX model adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and push-button start. The EX premium options package adds a sunroof and a hands-free power liftgate. In the top-tier SX, you get a hands-free power liftgate, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
The infotainment system includes a 7-inch touchscreen display, a four-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Available upgrades include an 8-inch touchscreen display, wireless device charging, navigation, voice recognition, a rear-seat entertainment system, and an eight-speaker premium Harman Kardon stereo system.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awards the 2021 Sedona a five-star overall rating, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2020 Sedona five Good scores and one Acceptable score in crash testing. A reversing camera comes standard. Optional features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, driver-attention warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors.
The 2021 Kia Sedona carries over as one of the most value-oriented minivans out there, and a great option for families on a budget.

Loved the powered sliding doors which are really great for helping get my two small children in and out of the vehicle. Other great features were the GPS, Apple car play, Bluetooth, automatic setting adaptive cruise control, Blind spot warning, and back up camera.

How much does the 2021 Kia Sedona cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,945 |
| Year-Round Low | $16,375 |
| Year-Round High | $19,186 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,766 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.70% |
Prices have softened 9.70% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 125 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2021 Kia Sedona a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. That kind of feedback suggests you may have a solid ownership experience if you find a well-kept example. 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2021 Kia Sedona reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the model-year rating and more about the condition of the specific vehicle you choose, so a careful inspection matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Sedona?
At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any promising listing. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven wear, and overall maintenance quality so you can separate a clean, well-cared-for van from one with hidden issues.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Sedona?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 125 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.70% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 66.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,375, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Kia Sedona's resale value?
The current average of $16,945 sits slightly below last year's $18,766.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the vehicle easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the van in strong condition, you can help protect your future resale position. A clean history and good maintenance records matter more when the market is already showing softer pricing.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Kia Sedona or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.70% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used Sedona with a softer price trend and a decent share of deal-priced listings, the 2021 is a sensible primary target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep an eye on nearby model years and compare condition, history, and asking price closely so you can choose the best value rather than just the newest option.
