How much does the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 11.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,491 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — with a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee lands as a strong but not flawless choice.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its spacious interior, smooth ride, impressive power, and luxury feel. They also point to its off-road capability and advanced technology features, which help explain why it appeals to buyers who want style and comfort with real utility.

The trade-offs are familiar: the base engine is underwhelming, and some owners felt the tech content and fuel economy did not fully match the price.

That makes it a good fit if you want a midsize SUV with a premium vibe and broad capability rather than maximum efficiency or the most generous standard equipment. With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its smooth ride, spacious cabin, and strong power over the long haul. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing it as a capable all-arounder with a solid, familiar formula.

Jeep’s customer care program also includes free scheduled maintenance for the first three years and 36,000 miles of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about whether the specific vehicle has been maintained well and equipped with the features you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 73.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model’s safety equipment varies by trim, it is also worth confirming exactly which driver-assistance features are installed on the specific vehicle you are considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the affordable Laredo and Limited to the upscale Overland and Summit, with Trailhawk for serious off-roading and SRT and Trackhawk for performance-focused buyers. Base trims are more likely to leave you without the richer materials and equipment that make the Grand Cherokee feel upscale.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 5.7-liter V8 makes 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque and adds stronger towing capability.
• Safety package: The ProTech II Package adds adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Some trims do not include these features as standard.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 4C with Nav includes navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and Jeep Skill for Amazon Alexa.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 is described as returning no more than 17 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 7 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Laredo X, 80th Anniversary Edition, Overland, Summit, and Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point if you want the Grand Cherokee formula at the lowest price, but it is also the trim most likely to feel stripped down compared with the richer versions.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it sits in the sweet spot between price and equipment, giving you a more complete Grand Cherokee experience without jumping to luxury pricing.
• Laredo X: Choose this if you want a value-oriented version with a little more appeal than the standard Laredo.
• 80th Anniversary Edition: This is for shoppers who want a commemorative version with added distinction.
• Overland: Step up here if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for it.
• Summit: This is the luxury pick, with the richest cabin presentation and the most premium feel in the lineup.
• Trailhawk: Pick this if off-road use matters most, since it is the trim aimed at serious trail capability.

Jeep also offers numerous safety features, but they are not standard across the lineup, so verify the exact package on any used example you consider.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,491 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.66% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,022, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $22,022 sits slightly below last year's $24,928.

That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to the prior-year average.

The Grand Cherokee’s broad appeal also helps support demand, especially for shoppers who want a stylish SUV with real capability and a premium feel. Well-equipped examples should remain easier to market than stripped-down versions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA with 4WD, but 2WD versions drop to a four-star overall rating and include three-star rollover resistance.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety story is mixed because the Grand Cherokee’s crash-test performance is weaker in IIHS testing, where it earns a Marginal rating for the driver and a Poor rating for the front passenger in small-overlap frontal-impact testing. Headlights also rate Poor unless you upgrade to the high-intensity discharge setup with automatic high-beam assist.

Jeep does offer a strong driver-assistance suite on better-equipped trims, including adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights.

For used buyers, the key is to verify both the drivetrain and the safety package, because the difference between a basic build and a well-equipped one is significant.

Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year is the outgoing two-row Grand Cherokee before the redesign arrives.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $19,959, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $22,022 average.
• It is a tenth-year Grand Cherokee with familiar capability and style.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $26,244, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $22,022 average.
• It brings a redesigned cabin with more technology and sophistication.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar Grand Cherokee formula and can live with its aging safety and tech story, the 2021 is the one to target. If price matters most, the 2020 is the cheaper path; if you want the newer design and can spend more, the 2022 is the upgrade to consider.
