Is the 2021 INFINITI QX80 a good car?

With a 3.8/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating, the 2021 INFINITI QX80 lands in the range of a capable but compromise-heavy luxury SUV. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners commonly praise the luxurious and comfortable ride, the refined interior, and the smooth driving experience. The overview also points to a large, premium SUV with genuine rugged capability and a comfortable cabin, which fits shoppers who want presence and space more than sharp handling.

The trade-offs are clear: the expert review calls out poor fuel economy and poor handling, and it also flags poor value for money. That makes the QX80 a better fit if you prioritize comfort, size, and premium materials over efficiency or agility.

Only 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you may need to shop selectively to find the strongest value.

Is the 2021 INFINITI QX80 reliable?

The 2021 INFINITI QX80 is positioned as a rugged, body-on-frame luxury SUV, and owners describe it as luxurious, comfortable, and smooth to drive. The owner summary also points to a refined interior and improved features, which supports the idea that it can be a dependable long-haul cruiser when maintained well.

The expert review adds that the QX80’s body-on-frame setup and available low-range 4WD give it old-school toughness, while the independent suspension helps it deliver a comfortable ride. Infiniti also includes a four-year, 60,000-mile basic warranty and a six-year, 70,000-mile powertrain warranty.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a large V8 luxury SUV can become expensive to own if prior maintenance has been inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 INFINITI QX80?

At 72.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, and wear that doesn’t match the mileage. Because this is a large luxury SUV, it’s also smart to check that the cabin electronics, cameras, and comfort features all work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Luxe trim rides on 20-inch wheels, while Premium Select and Sensory get 22-inch wheels. The interior is dressed up with wood trim, contrast stitching, and standard leather upholstery, with perforated semi-aniline leather on Sensory models.
• Powertrain: All models use a 5.6-liter V8 with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and 4WD is available; the engine makes 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and Backup Collision Intervention.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses 8.0-inch upper and 7.0-inch lower touchscreens, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a built-in WiFi hotspot, and navigation. A 17-speaker Bose system and rear-seat entertainment package are optional.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA ratings are 16 mpg combined, 14 mpg city, and 20 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive, or 15 mpg combined, 13 mpg city, and 19 mpg highway with 4WD.

Which 2021 INFINITI QX80 trim should I buy?

The 2021 INFINITI QX80 is offered in 3 trim levels: Luxe, Premium Select, Sensory.

Here's the short version:

• Luxe: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core QX80 experience with standard leather upholstery, 20-inch wheels, and the full suite of standard driver-assistance features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the model and can live without the extra visual and equipment upgrades.
• Premium Select: This trim adds a more upscale look and moves you up to 22-inch wheels, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers who want a richer appearance without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Sensory: This is the range-topping version, and it brings perforated semi-aniline leather, 22-inch wheels, and the most premium presentation in the lineup. It suits you if you want the most luxurious QX80 and are willing to pay for it.

Standard safety equipment is generous across the lineup, so you don’t need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 INFINITI QX80?

This is a moderate market, so you should be selective and ready to move when you find a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 484 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,418, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 INFINITI QX80's resale value?

The current average of $28,505 sits slightly below last year's $32,077.

That drop suggests the QX80 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, the same trend means you should expect resale value to remain sensitive to mileage, condition, and equipment level.

Because the market has softened, a well-kept example with strong service history should stand out more clearly than a higher-mileage or rougher one. That makes documentation and condition especially important if you want to protect future value.

Is the 2021 INFINITI QX80 safe?

The 2021 Infiniti QX80 earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings for side crash tests, four-star ratings for frontal crash tests, and a three-star rollover rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and Backup Collision Intervention. That’s a strong standard list for the class, especially since Infiniti makes these features standard rather than optional.

The main caveat is the rollover result, which is lower than the rest of the crash-test performance. If safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to that result and make sure the vehicle’s driver-assistance systems are functioning properly.

Should I buy a 2021 INFINITI QX80 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.14% compared with last year.
• It keeps the old-school body-on-frame formula with available low-range 4WD and a refreshed trim lineup.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $21,900, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $28,505 average.
• It offers a more luxurious feel with a comfortable cabin and strong presence.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,695, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $28,505 average.
• It adds a widescreen 12.3-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and a more modern tech setup.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and features, the 2021 is the sensible middle ground. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 is the better pick if you want the newer tech upgrade.
