How much does the 2021 Hyundai Tucson cost?

Prices have softened 7.85% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,527 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy set of options to compare.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, great handling, and impressive features for the price. The Tucson’s appeal is strongest if you want a well-equipped compact SUV with stylish design and easy-to-use technology, especially in a crowded small-SUV market where value matters.

The trade-offs are clear: sluggish performance and an underwhelming base engine, plus some noise. Even so, the Tucson’s final-year-of-generation status and competitive pricing make it a practical choice if you care more about features and comfort than quick acceleration.

There are 32.1% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as comfortable and impressive for the price, and that kind of positive ownership feedback often lines up with dependable day-to-day use. The expert review also emphasizes that Hyundai loaded this model with plenty of tech and safety features while keeping the price competitive, which supports its reputation as a sensible long-term buy.

The powertrain is backed by a strong warranty, which helps reduce ownership anxiety for used buyers. For a used purchase, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?

At 74.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment on the vehicle matches what you expect from the trim level.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE starts with 17-inch alloy wheels, manually adjustable front seats, a digital driver information display, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add features like heated seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, leather upholstery, a 360-degree camera system, and an 8-inch touchscreen, so base-trim shoppers should check carefully for the equipment they want.
• Powertrain: The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 161 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.4-liter four-cylinder makes 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. The base engine is described as underwhelming, so the stronger engine is the better fit if you want more relaxed everyday performance.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver drowsiness monitoring. Adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are reserved for upper-tier trims.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while an 8-inch touchscreen is available on higher trims. The system is described as easy to use, with logical menus and helpful hard buttons.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version returns 23 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The AWD version of the base engine returns 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, Value, SEL, Sport, Limited, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Tucson experience with the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the basic comfort and convenience features. It makes sense if you want the lowest price, but you should compare it carefully against the Value trim because the added equipment is meaningful.
• Value: This trim adds heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, LED headlight accents, roof rails, and satellite radio. It looks like the best-value choice if you want a noticeable upgrade without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SEL: This one adds 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a rear-seat USB power outlet. It’s a good middle-ground option if you want more everyday comfort and convenience.
• Sport: This trim brings 19-inch wheels, LED head-and-taillights, fog lights, a hands-free power liftgate, wireless device charging, and an Infinity premium audio system. It suits you if you want a more upscale feel and more convenience features.
• Limited: This trim adds a 360-degree camera system, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and an eight-way power front-passenger seat. It’s the right pick if you want the most premium-feeling Tucson before the top trim.
• Ultimate: This is the most feature-rich version, with an 8-inch touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rain-sensing wipers, and a panoramic sunroof. Choose it if you want the most equipment and don’t mind paying for it.

Upper trims are where you’ll find the more advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, and blind-spot monitoring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to reward patience.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,527 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.85% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,068, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $17,068 sits slightly below last year's $18,522.

That price movement suggests the Tucson has become more affordable for buyers, which can make it a tougher sell for owners trying to maximize resale. If you plan to sell later, the current market shows that pricing discipline matters, because shoppers have plenty of alternatives in this segment.

Even so, the Tucson’s value-oriented reputation and strong feature content help it stay relevant with used buyers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Tucson earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Tucson provides a solid list of standard driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver drowsiness monitoring. If you want adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, or blind-spot monitoring, you’ll need to move up to upper-tier trims.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the final year of the generation, with plenty of tech and safety features at a competitive price.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $19,826, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,068 average.
• It brings a larger, redesigned body with more room inside.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and plenty of equipment. If you’re willing to spend more for extra space and a newer redesign, the 2022 is the better path.
