Used 2021 GMC Canyon for Sale nearPortland, OR

How much does the 2021 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 7.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,216 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon a good car?

Generally — the 2021 GMC Canyon earns a 4.3/5 user rating, and its expert rating is 7.3/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, appearance, and features, and they also like the spacious interior and luxury-like feel for the price. The main trade-offs are a stiff, loud ride on the highway and a diesel engine that can feel short on power in some situations.

For you, that means the Canyon makes the most sense if you want a midsize truck that feels more upscale than basic and still fits weekend-duty use. It lands in the middle ground of the segment, where value matters and full-size-truck capability is not the goal.

Good and great deals account for 35.2% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive buys in the market.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that many people find dependable, with praise centered on value, features, and a generally satisfying ownership experience. The expert evaluation also frames it as a capable, enjoyable pickup that can handle weekend adventure or project use with confidence.

If you want a used Canyon, the biggest long-term ownership risk is ending up with one that has been worked hard or maintained inconsistently, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear, signs of hard use, and whether the truck’s condition matches its mileage and asking price. Pay extra attention to the cabin and ride quality, since those are the areas where this model can feel less polished than its rivals.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Elevation Standard comes with 18-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels, signature LED running lights, the CornerStep rear bumper, black door handles and side mirrors, manually adjustable front seats, power locks, two USB ports, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The Elevation adds LED fog lights, remote start, body-color door handles, a manually sliding rear window, a six-way power driver’s seat, automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and aluminum interior accents. The AT4 adds 17-inch dark metallic aluminum wheels, aggressive all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, off-road suspension, and underbody skid plates. The Denali adds polished aluminum wheels, polished exhaust tip, chrome side steps, chrome door handles, LED bed lighting, a spray-on bed-liner, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, an 8-inch infotainment system, Bose premium audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, and a wireless charging pad.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed automatic. A 3.6-liter V6 is optional on the Elevation trims and standard on the AT4 and Denali, making 308 hp and 275 lb-ft through an eight-speed automatic. A 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder turbodiesel is also available, with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft through a six-speed automatic. The base gas four-cylinder has to work hard, while the V6 is the better choice if you want stronger everyday performance.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and the Teen Driver system. The Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on the Denali and optional on other trim levels. The Denali also adds an upgraded HD backup camera and Hitch Guidance.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A larger 8-inch screen is optional on the Elevation and AT4 trims and standard on the Denali. The Denali also adds navigation, HD radio, a wireless charging pad, and a 4.2-inch color driver display.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder gas engine with RWD returns 19 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined. With 4WD, it returns 19 mpg city, 24 highway, 21 combined. The gas V6 with RWD returns 18 mpg city, 25 highway, 21 combined, while the V6 4WD test truck returned 17 mpg city, 24 highway, 19 combined. The optional diesel is the efficiency standout, with RWD returning 20 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined and 4WD returning 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 22 combined.

Which 2021 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials without much extra polish. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the Canyon, but the base setup is also the most stripped-down.
• Elevation: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like remote start, automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat, and fog lights without jumping all the way to the premium trims.
• AT4: This is the one to choose if you want the off-road-inspired setup, with all-terrain tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and off-road suspension. It also gets the V6 and 4WD, which makes it the most adventure-ready version.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning trim, with the most upscale cabin and the most convenience features, including the larger infotainment screen, Bose audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, and wireless charging.

The Driver Alert package is standard on the Denali and optional on the other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,216 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,724, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $27,724 sits slightly below last year's $29,998.

That softer pricing suggests the Canyon has already moved down from its prior-year level, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than broad market momentum alone.

Because the market is still showing meaningful inventory and a decent share of good deals, you may not see a quick rebound in pricing. If you buy well now and keep the truck in strong condition, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation later.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2021 GMC Canyon earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and the Teen Driver system. The available Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on the Denali and optional on other trim levels. The Denali also adds an upgraded HD backup camera and Hitch Guidance.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The refreshed look and new AT4 trim give this year a more modern, distinctive feel.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,706, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,724 average.
• It adds a Denali Black Edition package and renames High Elevation to Elevation Premium.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2021 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer model year and package changes, the 2022 is the secondary path.
