Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford F-150 4.84 / 5 stars.

The 2021 Ford F-150 features a redesigned interior with modern technology, an optional hybrid powertrain, and a variety of configurations to suit different needs.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford F-150 continues to uphold its reputation as a top contender in the full-size pickup truck market, thanks to its blend of performance, technology, and versatility. This model introduces a significant redesign that includes an updated exterior and a revamped interior, featuring the new Sync 4 infotainment system, which enhances connectivity with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The introduction of the PowerBoost hybrid powertrain marks a notable advancement, offering impressive power and fuel efficiency, making it the only full-hybrid option in its class. While the base engine may not impress all buyers, the F-150 excels with its multiple powertrain options, including robust twin-turbocharged V6 engines and a diesel variant. The truck's spacious interior and practical features, such as fold-flat seats and ample storage, cater to both work and leisure needs. However, some users have noted that certain interior materials feel less premium than expected, and advanced safety features are not standard across all trims. Overall, the 2021 Ford F-150 remains a strong choice for those seeking a reliable and capable pickup.

The XLT 302A is the best bang for your buck. The powerboost motor has amazing fuel economy without sacrificing power, plus you get the benefit of a mobile generator. There is a lot of tech in this truck, so time will tell as far as quality, but so far, this truck is perfect.

They also like the fuel efficiency of the smaller engines and the truck’s versatility for different needs. On the downside, some owners think pricing runs high and wish certain trims had more features.
That lines up with the truck’s broad use case: you’re getting a full-size pickup that can work as a daily driver, a tow rig, and a family hauler. The trade-offs are that the base engine can feel underwhelming and some interior materials don’t feel as premium as the higher-end trims suggest.
Good and great deals account for 31.2% of listings, so you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Ford F-150 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.84/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, versatile, and well suited to long-term use. Reviewers also highlight its strong performance and comfort, which usually matter when you’re planning to keep a vehicle for years. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by noting good road manners and a powertrain lineup that gives you plenty of choice.
Ford also backs the truck with a three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-spec trucks can be expensive to maintain and repair if they’ve been heavily used or optioned with more complex equipment.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford F-150?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because even a strong accident-free share doesn’t tell you how a specific truck was used. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on drivetrain condition, towing wear, and interior condition, especially if the truck was used for work. It’s also smart to compare trim equipment closely, since feature content changes a lot across the lineup.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base XL models are much more spartan inside, while King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited bring a far more upscale cabin. The gap in materials is especially noticeable if you want a truck that feels premium every day.
- Powertrain: You get a wide range of engines, from the 3.3-liter V6 to the 5.0-liter V8, twin-turbo EcoBoost V6s, a diesel, and the PowerBoost hybrid. The hybrid is the most powerful option, but the non-hybrid 3.5-liter EcoBoost is the better choice if maximum towing matters more than efficiency.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, hill-descent control, and intersection assist are available at extra cost, so base trucks may leave you wanting more.
- Infotainment: Sync 4 brings an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air update capability. Higher trims can add a 12-inch touchscreen and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster.
- Fuel efficiency: The PowerBoost hybrid returns 25 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive and 24 mpg combined with four-wheel drive. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost matches the hybrid’s highway mpg, while the Power Stroke diesel is rated at 27 mpg highway with 4WD.
Which 2021 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: XL is the most stripped-down version, with the sparest materials and the fewest comfort touches. If you want the essentials only, it gets the job done, but it leaves out the upscale feel found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: XLT is the most balanced choice if you want a better mix of equipment and value. It should give you a more satisfying everyday experience without pushing you into luxury-truck pricing.
- Premium/top trim: King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited are the trims to target if you want the most refined cabin and the richest materials. They’re the best fit if comfort and presentation matter as much as capability.
- Off-road trim: For typical daily driving, the higher-priced, feature-heavy versions can be harder to justify if you don’t need the extra luxury or specialized equipment.
Ford’s safety package starts with Co-Pilot360, but several helpful driver aids remain optional rather than standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford F-150?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a fire-sale environment.
- Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 9,527 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.06% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $33,099.38, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford F-150's resale value?
The current average of $33,895 sits slightly below last year's $35,703.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than just model-year appeal. Trucks with the right equipment and strong maintenance records should hold up better than bare-bones or heavily used examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.84/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford F-150 safe?
It earns a good roof-strength rating from IIHS.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is the standard safety suite, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, hill-descent control, and intersection assist are available, but they cost extra. Ford also planned Active Drive Assist for later availability, with a prep kit on equipped trims and software added later for a fee.
The main caveat is that full crash-test ratings were not yet available when this model launched, so you should pay close attention to the specific safety equipment on the truck you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.84/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign adds Sync 4, an available PowerBoost hybrid, and a more refined cabin.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $29,293, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $33,895 average.
- It offers a comfortable, practical cabin with strong towing capability.
The 2021 is the better pick if you want the newer redesign, stronger tech, and the broader appeal of the updated cabin and hybrid option. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the smarter value play because it delivers much of the same core capability for less.
