Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport stands out as a lively, capable, and attractive compact two-row crossover SUV that is meant to feel at home both on pavement and off it. Ford’s own test-drive impression describes it as a spunky companion for on- and off-pavement adventures, and that character is reinforced by its great handling and stylish design. It also brings impressive technology, which helps give it a more modern feel than its rugged looks might suggest.
At the same time, the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is not without compromises. The main drawback called out in testing is that the interior materials feel cheap, and owner feedback echoes concerns about cabin quality, especially the small back seat. Even so, its blend of style, capability, and engaging road manners makes it appealing to buyers who want a compact SUV with a more adventurous personality.

This is the car I ended up getting and it was amazing!! I love the cute features of the bronco tied with its functionality. I do a lot of highway driving but also love to go on adventures and do a bit of off-roading this is the perfect vehicle for both.

This is the first vehicle I have ever purchased without having the opportunity to see it in advance, due to the shortage of vehicles overall. I enjoy the performance and handling thus far. Great turning radius. I very much enjoy the medium size of the vehicle as an SUV. It is not compact yet it is not bulky. There is ample room in the back for most needs, especially with the rear seats folded down. The leg room in the back seat is limited, but adequate. I am glad to have purchased the upgraded Outer Banks Model. The added features were worth the cost of the upgrade.

Ford’s own overview frames it as a compact two-row SUV that works for both pavement and off-pavement use, so it fits you best if you want a small SUV with a more rugged personality than most rivals. With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.15/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable enough to recommend for adventurous use, with praise centered on its good fuel economy and off-road capability. The expert drive notes also describe it as a pleasant surprise off-road and a good-mannered crossover on pavement, which supports the idea that it can handle daily use without feeling fragile. Ford also includes a standard maintenance perk in the ownership experience: the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about living with the cabin-quality compromises and checking that the vehicle has been cared for properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if it looks clean on the listing page. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you plan to use it for trail driving, since off-pavement use can leave hidden wear. Pay close attention to cabin condition, rear-seat space, and any signs that the vehicle has been used hard rather than just driven daily.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base model starts with 17-inch Sparkle Silver wheels, while Big Bend gets 17-inch Carbonized Gray-painted high-gloss aluminum wheels. Outer Banks steps up to 18-inch machined-face aluminum Ebony Black-painted wheels with all-season tires, and Badlands uses the same wheels with 28.5-inch all-terrain tires. First Edition adds 17-inch Ebony Black-painted wheels with 29-inch all-terrain tires. The cabin also steps up from cloth seats to leather-trimmed, heated sport-contour bucket seats and then to Navy Pier Leather power front seats on the First Edition.
- Powertrain: The 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder engine makes 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque in Base, Big Bend, and Outer Banks. Badlands and First Edition use a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder with 245 hp and 275 lb-ft. All versions use an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, and the stronger engine is paired with more off-road hardware.
- Safety package: Every trim gets Ford Co-Pilot360, which includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
- Infotainment: The 8-inch touchscreen runs SYNC 3 and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Ford+Alexa and SiriusXM are available, FordConnect with 4G LTE WiFi hotspot is standard, and the base audio system uses six speakers. Outer Banks and above can add a Bang & Olufsen sound system and a 360-degree camera with split view and a washer.
- Fuel efficiency: The owner summary highlights good fuel economy, and the expert drive notes that the 1.5-liter engine can sound a little strained and thrashy when pressed hard.
Which 2021 Ford Bronco Sport trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Big Bend, Outer Banks, Badlands, and First Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the entry point if you want the Bronco Sport’s core look, standard all-wheel drive, and full Co-Pilot360 safety suite at the lowest starting price. It also gets the 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and FordConnect with 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Choose it if you want the Bronco Sport identity without paying for extra comfort or trail hardware.
- Big Bend: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a step up in wheel treatment and keeps the more affordable 1.5-liter powertrain. It also gains the convenience of push-button start, which is not included on Base. If you want a balanced daily driver with a little more polish, this is the trim to focus on.
- Outer Banks: This trim is the comfort-and-tech step up, with 18-inch wheels, available Bang & Olufsen audio, a 360-degree camera, heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 6.5-inch digital instrument panel. It suits you if you want a more upscale feel without jumping to the more trail-focused models.
- Badlands: This is the more capable choice if you care about off-road hardware, because it brings the 2.0-liter engine, advanced 4x4 system with twin-clutch rear-drive unit, all-terrain tires, seven G.O.A.T. modes, Trail Control, and metal bash plates. Pick it if your weekends are likely to include real trail use.
- First Edition: This is the most fully equipped version, combining the stronger engine and off-road hardware with nearly every available feature. It was also a limited-production launch run, so it makes sense mainly if you want the most complete Bronco Sport package and are willing to pay for it.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim, while Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage but still need to move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,144 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.32% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,533.52, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport's resale value?
The current average of $20,563 sits slightly below last year's $22,929.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. If you shop carefully now, you may reduce the amount of value lost over your ownership period. Strong demand for a vehicle with this much style and capability can also help support pricing later, especially for well-kept examples.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.15/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Every trim comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360, which includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and it adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centering, evasive steering assist, a voice-activated touchscreen navigation system with pinch-to-zoom capability, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, and road-sign recognition, though road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.32% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.15/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Ford’s own test-drive summary describes it as a lively, capable, and attractive companion for on- and off-pavement adventures.
The bottom line: The 2021 Bronco Sport makes sense if you want the original model-year appeal, a strong mix of style and capability, and a market that still offers some negotiating room. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the lower end of the range and compare condition carefully, since the best-value examples are likely to go first.
