Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer earns 4.3/5 from owners and 7.7/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its sporty design, good gas economy, and spacious interior with great standard features. The expert review also points to great handling and easy-to-use technology, which fit the Trailblazer’s role as a stylish, affordable small crossover for younger buyers and anyone who wants personality without a big price tag. Trade-offs include an underwhelming base engine and uncomfortable seats, plus limited cargo space. Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for good gas economy and a spacious interior that supports everyday use. The expert review describes the Trailblazer as a decent-to-drive crossover SUV, and Chevrolet includes your first maintenance visit free of charge. What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any Trailblazer you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of water intrusion, since owner feedback has flagged leakage concerns. Focus on overall condition, because the Trailblazer’s appeal depends heavily on whether the cabin, electronics, and driving feel have been well maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trailblazer’s styling changes by trim, with Activ adding a more rugged look and RS also available in the lineup. Base versions are more straightforward, while higher trims bring more distinctive appearance details and a richer feel.
• Powertrain: The front-wheel-drive L, LS, and LT use a turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine with 137 horsepower and a CVT. Other versions use a turbocharged 1.3-liter 3-cylinder with 155 hp, and AWD swaps in a 9-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control are available depending on trim.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth pairing for two phones, SiriusXM, Teen Driver, and a WiFi hotspot. An available upgrade adds an 8-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, and cloud-connected personalization.
• Fuel efficiency: The Trailblazer’s testing loop returned 26.6 mpg, and the official EPA combined rating is 28 mpg.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Trailblazer’s core style and standard safety and tech without the extra trim flourishes. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it’s also the trim most likely to feel basic.
• LS: This is the next step up if you want a little more equipment without moving too far up the price ladder. It should suit you if you want a practical Trailblazer with the same easy-to-use tech and safety foundation.
• LT: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it balances equipment and price while staying close to the Trailblazer’s core strengths. If you want a more satisfying daily driver without jumping to the more style-focused trims, this is the one to look at first.
• Activ: This trim adds the more rugged appearance and the off-road-inspired look described in the review, including skid plate trim, unique wheels, and sport terrain tires. It’s the right pick if you want the Trailblazer’s personality to lean more adventurous.
• RS: This trim is for you if you want the sportier appearance and a more upscale-feeling presentation. It also sits among the trims that can be paired with the available all-wheel-drive setup.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, while blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control depend on trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,650 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,774, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $16,774 sits slightly below last year's $18,368.

That softer pricing can work in your favor if you’re buying now, but it also means future resale expectations should stay realistic. If you own one for a few years, the Trailblazer’s value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well it holds up against newer alternatives. The model’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, but the current trend shows it is not a rising-value vehicle.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The Trailblazer earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, and it includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. You also get 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, Teen Driver technology, and subscription-based automatic collision notification service. Depending on trim level, you can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control.

The expert review also notes some caveats in how the systems behave: forward collision warning can react too readily, adaptive cruise control can be over- and under-reactive, and lane departure warning plus lane-keeping assist can be inconsistent. That means the Trailblazer gives you a strong safety feature set, but you should still test the driver-assistance systems carefully on a used example.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out as a new entry-point Trailblazer with stylish design and plenty of technology.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $18,664, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $16,774 average.
• It adds a heated steering wheel and new paint colors.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and plenty of inventory. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer model with a few added features, the 2022 is the cleaner upgrade path.
