The 2021 Bentley Bentayga is the automotive definition of “opulent” or—depending on who you ask—"ostentatious.” With prices starting painfully close to $200,000, the Bentayga makes run-of-the-mill Range Rovers and Porsche Cayennes look nearly affordable. Only the Rolls-Royce Cullinan would make a Bentayga driver blush.

Luckily, there’s always the Bentayga Hybrid. Not only does its price start at a more reasonable (if that can even be said) $160,000, but it eschews gas-guzzling V8s for a more frugal hybrid V6.

Regardless of the powertrain, for the 2021 model year, Bentley re-worked some of the Bentayga’s styling. Shoppers will enjoy revised wheel designs, new taillights, and a new grille. Otherwise, the 2021 Bentayga remains very similar to previous-year models on the outside.

Gas-powered Bentaygas are covered as a separate model on CarGurus, but if you’re curious, we can report that they offer either a V8 or a V12 engine, depending on trim. Not exactly fuel-sippers, to be sure. On the Bentayga Hybrid, Bentley employs a 3.0-liter V6 paired with an electric motor to the tune of 443 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, it’s rated by the EPA to deliver 17 mpg city, 21 highway. OK, so even the hybrid isn’t exactly fuel-efficient. On the bright side, the Bentayga Hybrid can drive for up to 18 miles on electricity alone.

Honestly, we suspect most shoppers looking at the Bentayga Hybrid are more concerned about its comfort and technology than they are about its fuel economy. In 2021, the vehicle’s interior is awash with leather upholstery and wood trim, speckled with metal accents throughout. Shoppers have a wide array of colors to choose from for their leather upholstery. Bentley even offers a choice between two Breitling dashboard clocks. Other ways to spend money include a bottle cooler for the back seat and a safe that opens via a fingerprint reader. This car is fancy with a capital F.

Also new for 2021 is a standard 10.9-inch infotainment screen. Unlike some luxury automakers, Bentley includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are rear-seat infotainment screens also available, as is a 20-speaker Naim audio system upgrade (the base stereo is a surprisingly sparse 12 speakers).

As one would expect, the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid doesn’t come cheaply, and adding options can quickly increase the final sales price. Drivers shopping in this space can also consider the aforementioned Range Rover and Cayenne, or other luxury options like the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class.
