Used 2021 BMW M5 for Sale nearNew Brunswick, NJ

Is the 2021 BMW M5 a good car?

The 2021 BMW M5 stands out as a high-performance luxury sedan that blends serious speed with everyday usability. It uses BMW’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 and an eight-speed automatic transmission, and it comes with xDrive all-wheel drive tuned with a rear-wheel power bias. BMW says it can reach 60 mph in about 3.3 seconds and, with the M Driver’s Package, hit 190 mph.

For 2021, BMW also refreshed the styling and fitted a new iDrive infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto. The Competition model’s suspension was reworked for incremental ride improvements, which helps make the car feel a little more polished without giving up its performance focus.

The tradeoffs are the ones you would expect from an M5: it is expensive to buy, maintain, and repair, and it is not a subtle car in the way earlier M5s were. Even so, the 2021 BMW M5 is distinctive because it pairs astonishing acceleration and advanced technology with the kind of all-weather capability and daily comfort that make it more than just a straight-line machine. With 36.8% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a meaningful number of opportunities to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW M5 reliable?

The 2021 BMW M5 is presented as a high-performance luxury sedan that blends serious speed with everyday usability, and it brings BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive, a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. For 2021, it also gained refreshed styling and a new iDrive infotainment system with wireless smartphone integration, which adds to its modern feel.

The tradeoffs are the ones you would expect from an M5: it is expensive to buy, maintain, and repair. For a used buyer, that means long-term ownership risk is tied less to the car’s concept and more to whether the previous owner kept up with the maintenance and repair demands of a high-performance BMW.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW M5?

At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on bodywork quality, repair consistency, and signs of hard use. Because this is a performance sedan with expensive buy-in, maintenance, and repair costs, condition matters as much as mileage, so you want the cleanest example you can find.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW M5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Consider the 2022 if:

• It adds the M5 CS, a more extreme, track-focused version with 627 horsepower.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of modern tech, all-weather performance, and everyday usability, the 2021 is the stronger primary target. If you are shopping more aggressively on price, the 2021 also gives you a useful pool of listings to compare, but you should be especially selective about condition and history.
