How much does the 2021 BMW 4 Series cost?

Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 6.8/10 expert rating point to a model that lands well with shoppers and reviewers alike. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

The 2021 BMW 4 Series is aimed at you if you want a stylish two-door BMW with a premium feel, and it leans more heavily on technology to deliver performance. It also earns credit for great handling and impressive technology.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarizing, a manual transmission is not available, and the back seat is cramped.

With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 BMW 4 Series is described as refined and user friendly, which supports the case for everyday dependability. Its powertrains are straightforward, with an eight-speed automatic as the only transmission, and the 430i xDrive test car’s acceleration was strong even if the transmission response was hesitant at times.

BMW’s standard warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles, with four years of free roadside assistance.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that luxury-car upkeep and option content can make repairs and maintenance more expensive than you might expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW 4 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or expensive options. Focus on body condition, wheel and tire wear, and whether the cabin and electronics work as intended, since this model leans heavily on technology.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 4 Series is offered in coupe and convertible body styles, and the interior includes standard front sport seats with 10-way power adjustment and driver’s memory. The base setup is well equipped, but the optional black leather upholstery and Live Cockpit Professional can materially change the feel of the cabin.
• Powertrain: The 430i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque, while the M440i uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft. The eight-speed automatic is the only transmission.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. Adaptive cruise control requires the Driving Assistance Professional Package.
• Infotainment: Standard iDrive includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen, while Live Cockpit Professional upgrades to a 10.25-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant voice control is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The RWD 430i is rated at 29 mpg combined (26 mpg city, 34 mpg highway), while the xDrive version is rated at 27 mpg combined (24 mpg city, 33 mpg highway).

Which 2021 BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW 4 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 430i and M440i.

Here's the short version:

• 430i: This is the better-value choice if you want the core 4 Series experience without paying for the stronger six-cylinder. It still gives you the stylish body, strong tech, and the standard equipment that makes the car feel upscale.
• M440i: Choose this if you want the more powerful engine and the more performance-focused setup. It adds the stronger inline-six and is the right pick if you care most about speed and extra capability.

The safety package is generous on both trims, but adaptive cruise control still requires the Driving Assistance Professional Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW 4 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 627 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,830, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $31,834 sits slightly below last year's $34,297.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist features include lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. Adaptive cruise control is not standard and requires the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which also adds steering assist and stop-and-go capability.

Crash-test ratings from NHTSA and IIHS aren’t available yet for this model year, so you should lean more heavily on the standard safety equipment and the condition of any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings bigger dimensions, more luxury, and a stronger technology focus.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,341, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $31,834 average.
• It adds a Gran Coupe hatchback body style with easier rear-seat access.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and the original redesigned coupe/convertible formula, the 2021 is the better value. If you want a newer body style with more everyday practicality and can spend more, the 2022 is the better fit.
