How much does the 2020 RAM 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 7.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 9,848 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 RAM 1500 earns 4.7/5 from owners and 7.7/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10. Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, smooth ride, powerful engine, and spacious interior, which lines up with its polished, truck-as-daily-driver appeal. The trade-offs are Bluetooth connectivity complaints and limited storage, while the expert review also notes that advanced safety features are not standard. For you, that means this is a strong fit if you want a refined full-size pickup for commuting, family use, and weekend hauling. Good and great deals account for 34.6% of listings, so there’s a decent amount of market flexibility.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, with a smooth ride, strong power, and a spacious cabin that owners are happy to live with over time. The expert review also emphasizes improved power delivery and drivability from the updated diesel setup, along with a more polished overall package. The cost-effectiveness review reinforces that you can buy into the truck without overpaying for features you may not want. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific truck you choose has been maintained well and equipped the way you expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 RAM 1500?

At 71% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim truck with more equipment. Focus on condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific listing. If you’re shopping for a used example, it’s worth comparing trim content carefully so you don’t assume a truck has safety or tech equipment that was optional.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tradesman starts with a 5-inch touchscreen, vinyl upholstery and flooring, a bench seat, steel wheels, and a basic stereo, while the Big Horn adds foglights, carpet, tinted windows, and available upgrades like 20-inch wheels, air suspension, dual-zone climate control, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen. The Rebel adds a lifted off-road suspension, off-road tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and a more aggressive setup, while the Laramie focuses on leather, heated and ventilated front seats, parking sensors, and more tech. The Limited adds standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and more safety equipment.
• Powertrain: The base 3.6-liter V6 makes 305 horsepower and uses an eTorque mild-hybrid system to improve fuel economy and smooth start/stop behavior. The optional 5.7-liter V8 delivers 395 hp and 410 lb-ft, while the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 is the torque leader with 480 lb-ft and is described as especially strong for towing and efficiency-minded buyers.
• Safety package: The available safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, a self-parking system, and a 360-degree camera. Some of these features are limited to higher trims, and advanced safety equipment is not standard.
• Infotainment: The truck uses Uconnect with a 5-inch touchscreen on lower trims, an 8.4-inch screen on mid-level trims, and an available 12-inch tablet-style touchscreen on higher trims. Wireless charging appears on equipped trucks, and smartphone pairing is a strength, with USB and USB-C ports throughout the cabin.
• Fuel efficiency: The base V6 is described as capable of 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined, while the V8 can return up to 17/23/19. The EcoDiesel is presented as the efficiency-focused option, though the review does not give a specific mpg figure.

Which 2020 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2020 RAM 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-first starting point if you want the truck’s core capability without paying for extras. You get the basic work-truck setup, and the review makes clear that it can still be a smart buy if you want to keep costs down.
• Big Horn: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience while keeping the truck’s price and personality balanced. It’s the trim where available upgrades like the larger touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, and air suspension start to make the truck feel much more upscale.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want the most aggressive off-road character in the lineup. It adds a lifted suspension, off-road tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and a more purpose-built setup than the other trims.
• Laramie: This is the comfort-and-tech trim if you want leather, heated and ventilated front seats, parking sensors, and a better stereo. It suits you if you want a more premium daily driver without going all the way to the top.
• Laramie Longhorn: Pick this if you want luxury touches with a more distinctive upscale look, including upgraded leather, wood accents, reclining rear seats with heat and ventilation, and navigation. It’s the trim for buyers who want the cabin to feel especially rich.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice if you want standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and more safety equipment. It’s the most complete version, but it makes the most sense if you’ll actually use the added luxury and tech.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so if that matters to you, focus on trims and packages that include them.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,848 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,368, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $27,368 sits slightly below last year's $29,736.

That price movement suggests the truck has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you choose a well-equipped trim with broad appeal, you may have an easier time attracting buyers later. The strongest resale candidates are usually the trucks that balance condition, desirable equipment, and sensible mileage rather than the most heavily optioned examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2020 RAM 1500 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from IIHS when equipped with the Crew Cab body, active safety equipment, and optional LED lights.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Some of those features are limited to higher trims, and advanced safety features are not standard. The expert review also notes that braking performance is consistent, though stopping distances are only average for the class.

Should I buy a 2020 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for the return of the EcoDiesel engine across the lineup, giving you more diesel choice than the prior year.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $23,647, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,368 average.
• It emphasizes comfort and refinement for commuting and everyday use.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,844, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,368 average.
• It leans harder into capability and high-performance off-road personality.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, satisfaction, and the EcoDiesel’s return, the 2020 is the smart default. If you’re trying to spend less, the 2019 is the value play; if you want a newer truck with more performance-oriented personality, look to the 2021.
