Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC earns a 4.77/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

The overview frames it as a compact luxury crossover with broad appeal, especially if you want a premium badge and everyday usability. On the downside, the expert review calls out the GLC 300’s performance and the cramped back seat, so it fits you best if you value refinement and tech more than rear-seat room or sporty base-model dynamics.

With 38.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC reliable?

Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user summary points to a vehicle that drivers feel good about living with, and it specifically highlights value for money alongside the GLC’s comfort and performance. The expert review also describes the model as a polished, well-rounded premium crossover that suits everyday use, which supports the idea that it should be easy to count on in normal ownership. The cost-effectiveness notes add that the GLC includes 3 years of connected vehicle services, which is a nice ownership perk.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright failure and more about choosing a poorly maintained example, so service history matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced example. Focus on condition, prior repairs, and whether the car’s equipment and trim level match the listing description. Because this model year has strong tech and safety content, you’ll want to make sure those systems work properly rather than assuming they do.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GLC 300 is the most basic version and lacks the visual drama of the AMG models, while the Coupe adds a fastback roof and the AMG versions bring wider tires, a vertical-bar grille, and a lower stance. If you want the best value, the GLC 300 is the sensible starting point, but the AMG variants are the ones that add the most visual presence.
• Powertrain: The GLC 300 uses a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with a 9-speed automatic and is available with rear-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive; the GLC 300 Coupe comes standard with 4Matic. The AMG GLC 43 uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6, and the AMG GLC 63 models step up to a twin-turbo V8.
• Safety package: The standard safety suite includes forward emergency braking, and 2020 adds Exit Warning Assist, which uses rear radar sensors to warn of approaching cyclists or cars after shutdown. Pre-Safe Sound and Predictive Brake Priming are also included, and the model earned top crash-test marks.
• Infotainment: A standard 10.3-inch touchscreen is included, and a 12.3-inch display can replace the analog gauges and central display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and wireless device charging is optional.
• Fuel efficiency: The GLC 300 4Matic is rated at 21 mpg city, 28 highway, and 24 combined, and the AMG models are estimated at 16/22/18.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC is offered in 4 trim levels: GLC 300, GLC 300 Coupe, AMG GLC 43, AMG GLC 63.

Here's the short version:

• GLC 300: This is the best-value choice if you want the core GLC experience with standard MBUX, heated front seats, LED headlights, and the broadest everyday appeal. It’s the trim most buyers are likely to find, but it’s also the one the expert review says has the weakest performance and handling.
• GLC 300 Coupe: Choose this if you want the same basic setup as the GLC 300 but prefer the Coupe’s fastback styling and standard 4Matic all-wheel drive. It’s more about style than added practicality.
• AMG GLC 43: This is the right step-up if you want a much stronger engine and a more exciting driving experience without jumping all the way to the top AMG model. It suits you if performance matters more than price.
• AMG GLC 63: Pick this only if you want the most powerful and most expensive version, with the V8 and the most aggressive hardware. It’s the enthusiast choice, not the value choice.

The safety content notes that the model earned top crash-test results and includes standard forward emergency braking, plus 2020’s Exit Warning Assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,835 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,666, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?

The current average of $22,666 sits slightly below last year's $25,109.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who paid closer to the prior-year average. The model’s broad appeal and strong safety reputation should help support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on trim, mileage, and condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC safe?

The GLC was named a 2019 Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it scored the highest five-star rating in all crash tests from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety package includes forward emergency braking, Exit Warning Assist, Pre-Safe Sound, and Predictive Brake Priming. Exit Warning Assist is the notable 2020 addition, using rear bumper radar sensors to warn occupants about approaching cyclists or cars after shutdown. The safety content also points to top crash-test performance across the board, which is a major strength for family buyers.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds a standard 10.3-inch touchscreen and Exit Warning Assist, while keeping the GLC’s strong safety reputation.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,762, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,666 average.
• It adds a more polished, upscale blend of performance, technology, and comfort.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong safety and solid owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year experience, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path.
