How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA cost?

Prices have softened 12.61% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 393 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

It stands out as a small luxury car that feels more upscale than budget-minded, and it works especially well for commuters and first-time luxury buyers who want a comfortable place to sit with occasional rear-seat use. The stylish design and great ride quality are the biggest positives, and the voice commands work well.

The trade-offs are real: the headrests can’t be adjusted, the lane-keep assist is overly aggressive, and the back seat is cramped. Even so, 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The CLA is described as a more sophisticated vehicle than the one it replaced, and the expert evaluation emphasizes that it feels more upscale and polished than a typical entry-level luxury car. Its performance is also framed positively, with the turbocharged setup delivering strong power and the transmission holding the right gear to stay in the engine’s sweet spot.

The cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that the car has grown up and become more sophisticated, though it can get expensive once options are added. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a well-equipped example can be costly to keep satisfying if you want the luxury and tech features that define the car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA?

At 63.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or shows signs of prior bodywork. Focus on overall condition, interior wear, and whether the car’s driver-assistance systems behave as expected during a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CLA 250 includes LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, a panoramic moonroof, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, sport bucket seats, and a 7-inch touchscreen with a center-console trackpad. The test vehicle also showed how much the car can gain from options such as a larger 10.25-inch screen, heated front seats, ambient lighting, a Burmester sound system, and a wireless charging pad. The CLA 250 4Matic is the trim CarGurus suggests, and it adds all-wheel drive.
• Powertrain: The CLA 250 and CLA 250 4Matic use a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The front-wheel-drive version is rated at 25 mpg city, 35 highway, 28 combined, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 23 mpg city, 33 highway, 27 combined.
• Safety package: The driver-assistance package includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic high beams, and a driver-drowsiness monitor. The lane-keeping assist behavior is notably abrupt, and the package is not standard on every version.
• Infotainment: The CLA uses the MBUX system with a touchscreen and trackpad controller, plus voice control through “Hey, Mercedes.” The cabin can also be equipped with a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive version is rated at 25 mpg city, 35 highway, 28 combined, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 23 mpg city, 33 highway, 27 combined.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA is offered in 4 trim levels: CLA 250, CLA 250 4Matic, AMG CLA 35 4Matic, AMG CLA 45 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

• CLA 250: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the CLA’s core appeal: stylish design, a high-end cabin feel, a panoramic moonroof, and the MBUX infotainment system. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• CLA 250 4Matic: This is the trim CarGurus suggests, and it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same strong mix of style, ride quality, and tech. If you want the best balance of everyday usability and the CLA’s upscale character, this is the one to target.
• AMG CLA 35 4Matic: This trim moves the car further toward performance-oriented driving, building on the CLA’s already athletic personality. It suits you if you want more of the dramatic, performance-luxury feel.
• AMG CLA 45 4Matic: This is the most aggressive version in the lineup and is the right fit if you want the most performance-focused CLA available.

The safety package includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic high beams, and a driver-drowsiness monitor, but it is part of an available package rather than standard equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 393 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.61% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,847, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA's resale value?

The current average of $20,847 sits slightly below last year's $23,853.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, the softer pricing means resale upside may be more limited unless your car is especially clean, well-optioned, and well maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA safe?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content highlights a full host of driver-assistance features, including forward-collision avoidance, automatic high beams, and a driver-drowsiness monitor. It also comes with a reversing camera, traction control, and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags.

One important caveat is the lane-keeping assist behavior, which is described as abrupt and overly aggressive. That makes it worth testing carefully on your own drive, especially if you value smooth driver-assistance intervention.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 redesign brought a more upscale cabin, stronger performance, and a more dramatic luxury feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,373, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,847 average.
• It builds on the redesigned CLA with sharper styling and an advanced user interface.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because it already delivers the redesigned CLA’s upscale look, strong performance, and modern cabin. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2020 gives you the newer-generation experience without paying the higher average price of the next year.
