How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA cost?

Prices have softened 13.08% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 391 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA a good car?

Generally — the 4/5 user rating and 7.67/10 expert rating point to a car that lands well with shoppers who want style and everyday comfort. The 2020 CLA is described as a small luxury car that feels more upscale than budget-minded, with coupe-like styling, a comfortable cabin, and a ride quality that stands out.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

That said, the expert notes point to a few trade-offs: the back seat is cramped, the headrests can’t be adjusted, and the lane-keep assist is overly aggressive. For you, that means the CLA makes the most sense if you value design, badge appeal, and commuter comfort more than rear-seat space or maximum practicality.

35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The CLA’s reliability case is helped by its polished driving character and upscale cabin, which suggest a well-developed small luxury package rather than a stripped-down entry model. The expert notes also describe it as more sophisticated than the car it replaced, which is a good sign for overall ownership confidence.

Its turbocharged 4-cylinder powertrain is presented as strong and well matched to the transmission, and the ride is described as athletic without sacrificing comfort. That combination usually matters for used buyers because it points to a car that should feel composed in daily driving rather than fragile or overly compromised.

The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a premium feature set can mean higher repair and upkeep exposure if the car was poorly maintained or heavily optioned.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA?

At 65.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision or has a long option list. Pay close attention to cabin condition, seat comfort, and how the driver-assistance systems behave in real-world use. Because this model is positioned as a small luxury car, you’ll want to make sure the premium features still work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CLA 250 includes LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, a panoramic moonroof, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, sport bucket seats, and a 7-inch touchscreen with a center-console trackpad. The test car also showed how much the cabin can improve with options such as the larger 10.25-inch screen, heated front seats, ambient lighting, a Burmester sound system, and wireless charging.
• Powertrain: The CLA 250 and CLA 250 4Matic use a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The front-wheel-drive version is rated at 25 mpg city, 35 highway, 28 combined, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 23 mpg city, 33 highway, 27 combined.
• Safety package: A driver-assistance package includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic high beams, and a driver-drowsiness monitor. The lane-keeping assist can be abrupt, so you should test it carefully during a drive.
• Infotainment: The CLA uses MBUX with a touchscreen and trackpad controller, plus advanced voice control. The cabin also includes a digital display setup that spans much of the dash, and the system supports steering-wheel-mounted controls.
• Fuel efficiency: The CLA 250 4Matic returns 23 mpg city, 33 highway, 27 combined, while the front-wheel-drive CLA 250 is rated at 25 mpg city, 35 highway, 28 combined.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA is offered in 4 trim levels: CLA 250, CLA 250 4Matic, AMG CLA 35 4Matic, AMG CLA 45 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

• CLA 250: This is the least expensive way into the CLA, and it already gives you the core luxury look, the 7-inch MBUX touchscreen, and the standard comfort and convenience features. It makes sense if you want the style and tech without stretching for performance extras.
• CLA 250 4Matic: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same turbocharged 4-cylinder setup and strong fuel economy. It’s the one to target if you want the most balanced mix of traction, efficiency, and everyday usability.
• AMG CLA 35 4Matic: This trim is for you if you want the more performance-oriented character implied by the AMG badge and are willing to pay for it. It sits above the 250 models and is aimed at buyers who care more about driving excitement than value.
• AMG CLA 45 4Matic: This is the top performance choice in the lineup and is the one to consider if you want the most aggressive version of the CLA. It’s the most specialized option, so it makes the most sense if performance is your priority.

The safety package includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic high beams, and a driver-drowsiness monitor, but the lane-keeping assist can be abrupt.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 391 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.08% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,159, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA's resale value?

The current average of $21,159 sits slightly below last year's $24,344.

That decline suggests the CLA has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, it also means you may need to price competitively if the market continues to favor shoppers. The good news is that the model’s upscale image and strong styling should still help it stand out among small luxury cars.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA safe?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety package includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic high beams, and a driver-drowsiness monitor, along with a reversing camera and traction control. A surround-view camera was also available on the test model, which helps with low-speed parking and tight spaces.

One important caveat is the lane-keeping assist: it can react abruptly by braking and jerking the wheel, so you should test that system carefully before buying. The standard airbag coverage is broad, but the driver-assistance behavior is the main safety-related concern to evaluate on a used example.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.08% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 redesign brought a more upscale cabin, sharper styling, and a much stronger luxury feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,852, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $21,159 average.
• It carries forward the improved upscale feel with sharp styling, energetic performance, and a high-class interior.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it already captures the redesigned CLA’s biggest improvements at a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the better secondary path, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2020 and shop for a clean, well-equipped example.
