Lexus’ SUV and crossover catalogs have grown sharply in recent years, and they now include several models to choose from. The largest is the legendary LX with gobs of off-road capability, and the smallest is the Lexus UX. The littlest crossover debuted for the 2019 model year as a subcompact alternative to larger luxury SUVs. The UX hybrid gets standard all-wheel drive (AWD), which is a benefit over its gas counterpart, which comes with front-wheel drive (FWD) as standard. Unfortunately, though, even the more aggressive-looking F Sport model retains the same powertrain, so there are cosmetic but not mechanical enhancements. Standard interior features include power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate controls, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa capability, four USB inputs, and a WiFi hotspot. Lexus offers several upgrade options, which include a 10.3-inch touchscreen, wireless device charging, navigation, and premium audio. On the safety front, the 2020 UX earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five stars overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Those great scores are on top of a decent list of standard safety equipment that includes forward-collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, lane departure alerts, and lane-keeping assist. The vehicle can be upgraded with blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alerts. The 2020 Lexus UX250h is on sale now. It carries a starting price of $35,525. The UX25h F Sport starts at $37,625 and the UX250h Luxury starts at $40,725. All prices include a $1,025 destination charge.
