Is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 owner-rated SUV with an expert score of 7.3/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its stunning design, luxurious features, and comfortable, fun-to-drive character. The review summary also points to strong power and performance, especially with the supercharged engines, while noting that the multimedia system could be better and that some shoppers may see it as overpriced.

The Velar fits you best if you want a stylish luxury SUV that can handle both road use and rougher terrain. Its trade-offs are that it is not the most practical choice if cargo space matters and advanced safety features are not standard.

With 34.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free enough to inspire strong satisfaction over time, especially for shoppers who value its luxury and driving character. The expert notes also emphasize the Velar’s solid, refined feel on the road, which supports the impression of a well-built SUV.

Land Rover includes a six-year corrosion/perforation warranty with unlimited mileage, which is a useful ownership perk to keep in mind.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that luxury features and complex systems can be costly if prior maintenance was skipped, so service history matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the electronics, infotainment response, and any signs of wear that could affect a luxury SUV. It also helps to compare trim equipment closely, since some desirable driver-assist features are not standard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model comes fairly well equipped with a power tailgate, Terrain Response, and hill-descent control, but it lacks some driver aids and only gets an open rear differential. Higher trims add more equipment, and the 2020-only SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition brings sportier styling touches and a V8.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, 3.0-liter supercharged V6 options, and the 2020-only 5.0-liter supercharged V8 in the SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition. All versions use an eight-speed automatic and four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and front and rear parking aids. Adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring are available in an option package, and the base model does not include all the driver aids many shoppers expect.
• Infotainment: You get dual 10.0-inch touchscreens, a built-in WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The base turbo-four is rated at 23 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway). The V6 is rated at 20 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway), and the SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition is rated at 17 mpg combined (15 mpg city, 20 mpg highway).

Which 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar trim should I buy?

The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is offered in 4 trim levels: base four-cylinder model, 3.0-liter V6, 3.0-liter V6 with 380 hp, SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition.

Here's the short version:

• base four-cylinder model: This is the best-value choice if you want the Velar’s styling, standard Terrain Response, hill-descent control, and a more efficient powertrain without stretching to the pricier versions. It is also the trim where you most clearly feel the missing driver-assist content.
• 3.0-liter V6: Choose this if you want more power than the base engine and still want to stay within the mainstream Velar lineup. It gives you a stronger performance balance without jumping to the special-edition V8.
• 3.0-liter V6 with 380 hp: This is the better pick if you want the stronger V6 tune and are willing to pay more for extra performance. It suits you if you care more about acceleration and passing power than fuel economy.
• SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition: This is the halo choice, with the V8, sportier styling, bigger brakes, retuned four-wheel drive and air-suspension logic, and an active exhaust system. It is the right pick if you want the most dramatic Velar experience and are comfortable with the premium price.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so check option-package content carefully on any trim you consider.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 546 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,755, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar's resale value?

The current average of $23,793 sits slightly below last year's $27,419.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may pressure future resale if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to the prior-year average.

The Velar’s strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, especially among shoppers who prioritize style and luxury appeal. Even so, resale will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and front and rear parking aids. Adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring are available as part of an option package that also raises the speed threshold for automatic emergency braking.

A key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should verify exactly which driver-assist items are fitted on any used example you consider. The expert assessment also notes that Land Rover’s lane-keep assist is less sophisticated than the systems offered by some competitors.

Should I buy a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model year adds the SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition, a one-year-only special with a V8 engine.

The bottom line: If you want the Velar’s styling, luxury feel, and a broader mix of powertrains, the 2020 is the year to target. If you are shopping with a tighter budget, you can still find value in the base model, but you should be especially selective about condition and equipment.
