Is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

It stands out as a plug-in hybrid SUV that blends efficiency with the brand’s traditional capability, and it still aims to deliver the upscale image and versatility you expect from this nameplate. The trade-offs are clear, though: cargo space is limited and the technology can be unintuitive, and the expert notes also call it poor value for money.

That makes it a better fit if you care more about style, refinement, and efficiency than maximum practicality or easy-to-use tech. 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview points to a model that combines traditional capability with improved efficiency, while the expert review highlights strong fuel economy in testing and a powertrain that can deliver quick acceleration. The performance notes also describe the drivetrain as capable of smooth hybrid operation once you leave it in its default mode.

The cost-effectiveness notes frame this as a vehicle that is not about saving money, but about blending environmental benefits with off-road adventuring and short electric trips. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that its complexity can make ownership less forgiving if you want simple, low-stress operation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a vehicle with this much technology and hybrid hardware. Focus on how the cabin electronics, charging behavior, and driving modes work in real-world use, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day ownership satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The PHEV starts at HSE trim, while the non-hybrid Range Rover Sport can be had in SE trim for less. The HSE-equipped PHEV brings a more upscale starting point, and the base SE is the lower-cost path if you do not need the plug-in setup.
• Powertrain: The plug-in hybrid pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a 141-hp electric motor and a 13-kWh battery for 398 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. It is designed for hybrid driving with an EV mode option, but the review notes that the electric-only range was difficult to verify in testing.
• Safety package: The Range Rover Sport includes lots of advanced driver-assistance systems, and the optional Driver Assist Package adds steering-assist technology. The review also mentions lane-keeping assist, but it notes that the steering-assist and lane-discipline features can feel too abrupt.
• Infotainment: The InControl Touch Pro Duo system uses touchscreens, apps, voice commands, and gesture controls, but it can be unintuitive and sometimes slow to respond. The review does not specify a screen size, wireless smartphone integration, or over-the-air update capability.
• Fuel efficiency: Land Rover says the PHEV can deliver up to 31 miles of all-electric driving range. In testing, it averaged 41.9 mpg at one point and 25.5 mpg over a 60-mile loop.

Which 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport trim should I buy?

The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is offered in 2 trim levels: SE and HSE.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the lower-cost entry point if you want the Range Rover Sport name and do not need the plug-in hybrid setup. It makes sense if your priority is getting into the model at the lowest price.
• HSE: This is the better-value choice for the plug-in hybrid because it is the trim used for the PHEV and brings the more desirable electrified powertrain. If you want the model’s efficiency angle and stronger standard equipment, this is the one to target.

The safety content also notes that the Range Rover Sport includes lots of advanced driver-assistance systems, with the optional Driver Assist Package adding steering-assist technology.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,060 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.20% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,382, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport's resale value?

The current average of $29,432 sits slightly below last year's $34,708.

That decline suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future buyers but may limit upside for a seller. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who paid closer to the prior-year average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport safe?

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport comes with lots of advanced driver-assistance systems, and the optional Driver Assist Package adds steering-assist technology.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety review also notes that the onboard technology can distract the driver, and that the steering-assist and lane-keeping systems can feel too abrupt in use. That means you should pay close attention to how the driver-assistance features behave on your test drive, especially if you plan to use them regularly.

Should I buy a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as a plug-in hybrid SUV that blends efficiency with the brand’s traditional capability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $33,134, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,432 average.
• It adds multiple powertrain options and available three-row seating.

The bottom line: If you want the better price and the plug-in hybrid angle, the 2020 is the smarter starting point. If you need broader versatility and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the stronger all-around choice; price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2020.
