Is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a model with a 5/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The 2020 Range Rover Sport stands out for pairing plug-in hybrid efficiency with the capability Land Rover says the SUV is known for. It also brings a stylish design and premium interior materials, which helps it feel appropriately upscale for this nameplate.

The trade-offs are real: cargo space is limited, the technology can be unintuitive, and value for money is poor. Even so, if you want a luxury SUV that emphasizes efficiency without losing its traditional character, this year has a distinctive appeal.

With 35.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2020 Range Rover Sport is presented as a luxury SUV with traditional capability and a premium cabin, but it also asks you to live with complex technology and a heavy, sophisticated drivetrain. In testing, it delivered remarkably good fuel economy for a plug-in hybrid, which supports the idea that it can be efficient in the right use case.

The performance notes also point to a plug-in hybrid setup that combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a battery, with the SUV defaulting to hybrid driving mode. Land Rover also says the battery can be recharged from a standard household outlet.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that complexity can make ownership less forgiving if the vehicle has been neglected or poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should start with a history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on a vehicle with advanced electronics and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Pay close attention to how the technology behaves, whether the cabin and cargo area show wear, and whether the vehicle has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The PHEV version starts at HSE trim, while the non-hybrid Range Rover Sport can be had in SE trim for less. The PHEV’s upscale positioning and premium materials make it the better fit if you want the more luxurious presentation.
• Powertrain: The plug-in hybrid setup combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a 141-hp electric motor and a 13-kWh battery. Land Rover says it can deliver up to 31 miles of all-electric driving range, but the test vehicle did not consistently stay in EV mode.
• Safety package: The Range Rover Sport includes lots of advanced driver-assistance systems, and the optional Driver Assist Package adds steering-assist technology. The lane-keeping assist and steering-assist features were described as abrupt, so you should test them carefully.
• Infotainment: The InControl Touch Pro Duo system uses touchscreens, apps, voice commands, and gesture controls, but it can be unintuitive and sometimes slow to respond. The text does not specify a screen size, wireless smartphone integration, or over-the-air capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 25.5 mpg on a 60-mile loop, and Land Rover says the PHEV can travel up to 31 miles on electricity alone.

Which 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport trim should I buy?

The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is offered in 2 trim levels: SE and HSE.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the lower-cost path into the Range Rover Sport lineup, and it makes sense if you want the nameplate without stretching to the plug-in hybrid’s higher starting price.
• HSE: This is the trim tied to the PHEV version, so it’s the better choice if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain, the upscale feel, and the strongest efficiency story in this model year.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that the optional Driver Assist Package adds steering-assist technology, and the lane-keeping assist and steering-assist systems were described as abrupt.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,062 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.44% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,455, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport's resale value?

The current average of $29,463 sits slightly below last year's $34,841.

That price decline suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have less downside left than a buyer who pays closer to the top of the market.

The model’s premium positioning and distinctive appeal can still support demand, especially for shoppers who want a luxury SUV with efficiency and capability. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport safe?

The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport comes with lots of advanced driver-assistance systems, but the onboard technology can distract you and the optional steering-assist system can feel overly aggressive.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard feature list includes advanced driver-assistance systems, and the optional Driver Assist Package adds steering-assist technology. The lane-keeping assist system was described as too abrupt, and the steering-assist feature could feel intrusive when trying to hold a natural line through a curve.

A key caveat is that crash-test ratings are not provided here.

Should I buy a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.44% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for plug-in hybrid efficiency paired with the brand’s traditional capability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $33,444, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,463 average.
• It adds multiple powertrain options and available three-row seating.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2020 if you want the lower average price and the plug-in hybrid efficiency story. If you need more versatility and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the better secondary path.
