Used 2020 Land Rover Defender for Sale nearTrenton, NJ

How much does the 2020 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 17.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 438 listings available, which suggests a modest but workable amount of inventory for shoppers.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Defender a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Land Rover Defender earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its practicality, impressive off-road capability, smooth on-road performance, power, styling, and sturdy build. The overview also frames it as a modern take on an off-road icon, with a clear appeal if you want a rugged SUV that still feels more comfortable and convenient than the old reputation suggests.

The trade-offs are clear: the expert review calls out poor value for money and interior materials that feel cheap. Even so, the market still shows 36.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Defender reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels practical, impressive off-road, smooth on pavement, and sturdy in build quality, which all support a dependable ownership impression. The expert review also describes it as quiet, plush, and soft on the road, with standard air springs helping it absorb rough surfaces well.

The cost-effectiveness notes add that the Defender is a specialty piece of equipment built in low numbers, which can make ownership feel more exclusive than ordinary. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying premium money for a truck whose cabin finish and value proposition may not match its capability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Land Rover Defender?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, because a strong accident-free share does not guarantee the specific vehicle you’re considering has a clean past. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin condition, electronics, and signs of hard use, since this model is often bought for rugged duty. Pay close attention to whether the truck has been used off road, because that’s where wear can show up fastest.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 110 comes with steel wheels, manual seats, and a lousy stereo, while the SE, HSE, X, and First Edition add more comfort and convenience. The cabin is described as industrial and basic, so higher trims matter if you want a more polished feel.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 296 hp and 295 lb-ft, while higher models use a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six with 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The six-cylinder mild hybrid is the stronger choice if you want more effortless performance.
• Safety package: Forward emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitor, and 360-degree cameras come standard. Rear cross-traffic alerts and alerts upon exiting the vehicle are optional.
• Infotainment: Pivi Pro uses a 10-inch touchscreen, includes over-the-air software updates, and comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 4G WiFi, and a wireless charger. The base 110 also gets navigation, though the interface has some usability quirks.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard four-cylinder is the more efficient setup, while the six-cylinder hybrid is the stronger powertrain choice. The expert data does not provide a specific MPG figure here.

Which 2020 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2020 Land Rover Defender is offered in 5 trim levels: 110, 110 S, 110 SE, HSE, and X.

Here's the short version:

• 110: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Defender experience at the lowest price, but it also comes with steel wheels, manual seats, and a lousy stereo. It suits you if you want the core capability and are willing to live with the most basic cabin.
• 110 S: This trim keeps the four-cylinder engine and adds a bit more equipment than the base model, making it the better value if you want to stay closer to the starting price while avoiding the most stripped-down setup.
• 110 SE: This is where the Defender starts to feel more complete, with more comfort and convenience features than the lower trims. It’s the best-value choice if you want a more satisfying daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• HSE: The HSE adds a more upscale feel, including leather and a 14-speaker Meridian stereo, and it’s the trim the expert tester drove. It’s a strong pick if you want the Defender’s capability with more luxury content.
• X: This is the loaded, two-tone version with the highest-end presentation and the most equipment. It suits you if you want the most premium Defender experience and are willing to pay for it.

Safety equipment is strong across the lineup, with forward emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitor, and 360-degree cameras standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Land Rover Defender?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 438 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,512, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $35,512 sits slightly below last year's $43,245.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you may have less depreciation left to absorb than someone who bought when prices were higher. The key for future resale is to choose a clean, well-kept example with strong equipment and avoid trucks that show heavy off-road wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Defender safe?

The Defender has not been rated by any U.S. crash testing agency or organization.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitor, and 360-degree cameras come standard. Rear cross-traffic alerts and alerts upon exiting the vehicle are optional, so you should check the exact equipment on any used listing before you buy.

Should I buy a 2020 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model year brings the Defender back to the U.S. as a modern, capable off-road SUV with strong tech and comfort.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $39,464, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $35,512 average.
• It adds short-wheelbase Defender 90 and long-wheelbase Defender 110 body styles.

The bottom line: If you want the lower average price and a broader pool of used listings, the 2020 is the smarter starting point. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year’s added body-style flexibility, the 2021 is worth a look.
