Is the 2020 Kia Telluride a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Kia Telluride earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10. Owners repeatedly praise its spacious interior, value for money, comfortable ride, and impressive features, while also pointing to strong safety ratings as a major draw. The expert review also frames it as a standout family SUV for shoppers who want the most space, technology, and amenities in the $30,000 to $50,000 range. The main trade-off is the irritating transmission, and the market still shows 35.5% of listings as good or great deals.

Is the 2020 Kia Telluride reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also emphasizes that you can count on its spacious cabin, comfortable ride, and value-oriented ownership experience. The expert review reinforces that dependable, family-friendly character by highlighting the Telluride’s strong everyday usability and well-rounded package. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the transmission behavior and overall condition match the vehicle’s mileage and maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Telluride?

At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and electronics still reflect the vehicle’s premium-feeling presentation. If possible, test the transmission behavior carefully during a drive, since that’s the clearest drawback called out in expert testing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Lower trims delete some of the silver interior detailing, reduce the sense of elegance around the climate controls, and downsize both the dash and instrument-panel screens.
• Powertrain: The Telluride uses a 3.8-liter V6 with 291 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic; AWD is available, and the transmission can feel delayed and inconsistent.
• Safety package: Forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and automatic braking, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, and Safe Exit Assist come standard.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Kia’s UVO link are standard, and upper trims with navigation add fast voice inputs and online search capability.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA-estimated fuel economy is 19 mpg city, 24 highway, and 21 combined, while FWD models net 20/26/23.

Which 2020 Kia Telluride trim should I buy?

The 2020 Kia Telluride is offered in 2 trim levels: LX and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Telluride formula at the lowest price, but you give up some of the richer interior presentation and upscale equipment found higher up.
• SX: This is the fully loaded choice, and it’s the trim that best shows off the Telluride’s premium-feeling cabin, advanced tech, and available luxury touches. If you want the strongest overall experience and can stretch the budget, this is the one to target.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but some advanced features and convenience items are reserved for upper trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Kia Telluride?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,234 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.16% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,259, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Kia Telluride's resale value?

The current average of $19,259 sits slightly below last year's $21,678.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. Strong demand for roomy, well-equipped family SUVs should still help support interest over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Kia Telluride safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Active driver assists are abundant in every Telluride. Forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and automatic braking, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, and Safe Exit Assist all come standard. Surround-view cameras and front parking sensors are optional, and the front passenger does not get a knee airbag.

Should I buy a 2020 Kia Telluride or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for excellent value for money and a spacious cabin.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,691, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,259 average.
• It adds modest updates, including a Nightfall Edition package and more LED headlights.

The bottom line: If you want the better bargain, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it delivers the core Telluride strengths at a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for a few incremental updates, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative.
