On the trade-off side, the expert notes call out an irritating transmission, and some owners mention missing conveniences like automatic liftgates and remote start in certain models.

The expert notes also support that impression by describing the Telluride as a well-rounded family SUV with strong value and a premium-feeling cabin. It also comes with standard features that help reduce day-to-day hassle, including a remote app that can locate and unlock the vehicle.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the transmission behavior and any missing convenience features are acceptable to you before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Telluride?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, feature content, and whether the vehicle has the equipment you actually want, since some conveniences vary by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Lower trims delete some of the silver interior accents, simplify the climate controls, and downsize both the dashboard and instrument-panel screens. Higher trims add a more upscale look, and the SX with the Prestige Package brings Nappa leather seats and a soft headliner.
• Powertrain: The Telluride uses a 3.8-liter V6 with 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available on every trim.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and automatic braking, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, and Safe Exit Assist. Surround-view cameras and front parking sensors are optional.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Kia’s UVO link are standard, along with a proximity key. Upper trims with navigation add fast voice inputs and online search capability.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA-estimated fuel economy is 19 mpg city, 24 highway, and 21 combined, while front-wheel-drive models return 20/26/23.

Which 2020 Kia Telluride trim should I buy?

The 2020 Kia Telluride is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Telluride’s core space and value without the extra luxury touches. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the richer cabin details and added convenience features found higher up.
• S: This trim adds a step up in everyday appeal while staying below the more expensive versions. It’s a sensible middle ground if you want more equipment than the LX without jumping all the way to the premium-focused trims.
• EX: This is the best-value trim. The expert notes specifically recommend an AWD EX because it adds heated and cooled front seats, 3-zone climate control, leather upholstery, a power tailgate, navigation, and the widescreen infotainment system.
• SX: This is the most fully equipped version, and it’s the one to choose if you want the richest feature set. The SX can add bright LED headlights, dual moonroofs, a Harman Kardon surround stereo, and, with the Prestige Package, Nappa leather seats and a soft headliner.

Standard safety equipment is strong across the lineup, with active driver assists included on every Telluride.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Kia Telluride?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and still find a strong deal.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,198 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.21% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,811, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Kia Telluride's resale value?

The current average of $19,811 sits slightly below last year's $22,065.

That drop suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price more competitively than owners did a year ago. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

The good news is that the Telluride’s strong reputation for value, space, and comfort should help keep demand healthy. Well-equipped examples in clean condition are likely to remain easier to move than less desirable, poorly maintained listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Kia Telluride safe?

The 2020 Kia Telluride is too new in this data set to have published crash-test results from NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment is extensive. You get forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and automatic braking, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, and Safe Exit Assist. Surround-view cameras and front parking sensors are optional.

One important caveat is that the front passenger does not get a knee airbag, even though the driver does.

Should I buy a 2020 Kia Telluride or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its strong value, roomy cabin, and upscale-feeling interior.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,061, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,811 average.
• It adds a Nightfall Edition package and a remote engine-start button on the key fob.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2020 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and the model already delivers the core Telluride strengths. If you’re willing to pay more for a few modest updates and a newer model year, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative.
