How much does the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 10.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,967 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.58/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and luxurious features, and many highlight the powerful engines, especially the V8, along with the ride quality and advanced safety options. The trade-offs are familiar: some drivers want better gas mileage, and others mention seating comfort for taller people and some build-quality concerns.

That lines up with the broader use-case here: you’re looking at a midsize SUV with a strong personality, stylish design, and real off-road capability, but also one that is not a fresh redesign and is acknowledged to be flawed. It also carries a 35.7% good-or-great-deal rate, which helps if you’re shopping carefully.

Is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.58/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with comfort and performance that many buyers can count on over time. The expert evaluation also describes it as an appealing choice despite its age, which supports the idea that it can remain satisfying if you choose the right version.

Jeep’s performance notes reinforce that impression with satisfying acceleration from the standard V6 and capable 4WD systems on the right trims. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that age-related wear and uneven build quality can matter more than the badge suggests.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 68.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with prior bodywork. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment on the specific trim matches what you expect. Because advanced safety features are not standard, it’s worth checking exactly which assistance systems are included on the listing you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Grand Cherokee lineup spans from the Laredo to the Summit, with additional variants in between, plus SRT and Trackhawk versions. Base versions can feel less upscale inside, and the Premium Lighting Group is tied to better headlights on higher trim levels.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a 295-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 with an 8-speed automatic, and several V8 options are available for buyers who want more power. The Trailhawk is the off-road-focused choice, while the SRT and Trackhawk are the high-performance versions.
• Safety package: ProTech I is standard and includes a reversing camera, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. ProTech II adds low-speed forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights, while Advanced ProTech II adds full-speed forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, semi-autonomous parking assist, and rain-sensing wipers.
• Infotainment: Limited X trim includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM satellite radio, and SiriusXM Guardian connected services. A 4G LTE WiFi plan is available, and some versions offer a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard V6 returned 21 mpg in combined driving according to the EPA, and the test vehicle achieved 19.4 mpg in real-world testing.

Which 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 10 trim levels: Laredo, Summit, Limited X, SRT, Trackhawk, Trailhawk, and four additional variants between the bookends.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s style and capability without chasing luxury extras. It’s the trim to start with if you care most about value and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
• Limited X: This is the best-value choice if you want the strongest mix of features and everyday appeal. It adds the 8.4-inch Uconnect system with navigation, smartphone integration, connected services, and a more upscale appearance without jumping into the pricier luxury end.
• Trailhawk: Choose this if off-road use matters most. It brings all-terrain tires, skid plates, and Jeep’s most capable 4WD system, making it the clear pick for buyers who want the Grand Cherokee’s trail-ready character.
• SRT: This is the performance-focused choice for buyers who want serious power and track-capable hardware. It’s the right fit if you care more about acceleration and driving excitement than efficiency.
• Trackhawk: This is the extreme performance trim, with supercharged V8 power and the most outrageous capability in the lineup. It suits buyers who want the fastest, most dramatic Grand Cherokee experience.
• Summit: This is the upscale choice if you want the most premium-feeling Grand Cherokee. It sits at the top of the mainstream range and is the trim to consider if comfort and luxury matter more than price.

ProTech I is standard across all trim levels, while ProTech II and Advanced ProTech II add more driver-assistance equipment as you move up.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,967 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,234, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $20,234 sits slightly below last year's $22,497.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you’re thinking about resale soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, because a softer market can punish examples with accident history or missing equipment.

The Grand Cherokee’s broad appeal still helps support demand, especially for buyers who want style and capability in one package. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.58/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA and a 3-star rollover resistance rating with rear-wheel drive. In IIHS testing, it earns a Marginal rating for driver protection and a Poor rating for front passenger protection in the small overlap frontal-impact test.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep offers three collections of driver-assistance systems. ProTech I is standard and includes a reversing camera, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. ProTech II adds low-speed forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Advanced ProTech II adds full-speed forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, semi-autonomous parking assist, and rain-sensing wipers.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, and the crash-test results are unimpressive. If safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to which package a specific used example has.

Should I buy a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.58/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It remains an appealing, if flawed, choice with strong style and off-road capability.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,090, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,234 average.
• It balances on-road ease with off-road ability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,263, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,234 average.
• It adds a more upscale feel with premium materials and strong handling.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, availability, and the classic Grand Cherokee formula, the 2020 is the sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 is the cheaper path; if you want a newer-feeling cabin and don’t mind paying more, the 2021 is worth a look.
