How much does the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 10.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,891 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 6.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and luxurious features, and many also like the powerful engines and ride quality. The same feedback points to its strong appeal for buyers who want a vehicle that feels upscale and capable rather than purely practical.

The trade-offs are clear: advanced safety features are not standard, and value for money is a weak spot. The overview also frames it as a vehicle that works well for buyers who want broad versatility, including serious off-road use, rather than a simple commuter SUV.

With 35.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is enough market activity to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights comfort, performance, luxurious features, and a generally dependable ownership experience. The expert review also emphasizes that the Grand Cherokee’s talents are broad and well-rounded, with a durable, traditional-SUV character that many buyers value over time.

The performance write-up notes satisfying acceleration from the standard V6 and a traditional SUV feel that can handle rougher use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the same aging design that gives it character can also bring wear-related concerns and higher running costs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 68.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and trim level match the seller’s description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Prices start at $32,150 for the Laredo and rise to $52,495 for the Summit, with eight additional variants in between. Higher trims add more premium materials, but the cabin can still feel heavy on hard plastic as prices climb.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a 295-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 with an 8-speed automatic. V8 options are available, including a 5.7-liter Hemi, a 6.4-liter Hemi in the SRT, and a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the Trackhawk.
• Safety package: ProTech I is standard and includes a reversing camera, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. ProTech II adds low-speed forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: Limited X trim includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM satellite radio, and SiriusXM Guardian connected services. A 4G LTE WiFi plan is available, and some versions offer a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard V6 returned 21 mpg in combined driving in the expert test vehicle, and the EPA-rated figure cited in the review is also 21 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 10 trim levels: Laredo, Summit, Limited X, SRT, Trackhawk, and the additional variants mentioned between those bookends.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core styling and capability at the lowest starting price. It is the trim to consider if you care most about getting into the model without paying for extras you may not use.
• Limited X: This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest mix of equipment and everyday usability. It adds the 8.4-inch touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, and connected services, making it the most compelling all-around choice from the content provided.
• Summit: Choose this if you want the more upscale end of the lineup and are willing to pay for it. The review notes that premium materials are more common in higher trims, though it also warns that hard plastic becomes more noticeable as prices rise.
• SRT: This is the performance-focused choice, with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 and performance-oriented hardware. It suits you if you want the Grand Cherokee’s strongest on-road performance without going all the way to the most extreme version.
• Trackhawk: This is the wildest version, with the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and the most aggressive performance setup. It is the one to buy if outright speed is your priority and fuel costs are not.

ProTech I is standard on all trim levels, while ProTech II and Advanced ProTech II add more driver-assistance features as you move up.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,891 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,802, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $19,802 sits slightly below last year's $22,101.

That decline suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if prices stabilize. If you buy at the right number now, you may have less downside left than a shopper who paid closer to last year’s average.

The Grand Cherokee’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, and it earns a Marginal rating for driver protection and a Poor rating for front passenger protection in the IIHS small overlap frontal-impact test.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

ProTech I is standard on all trim levels and includes a reversing camera, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. ProTech II adds low-speed forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights, while Advanced ProTech II adds full-speed forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, semi-autonomous parking assist, and rain-sensing wipers.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, and the crash-test results are a weak point for the model. Headlights also rate Poor unless you upgrade to the Acceptable HID headlights in the Premium Lighting Group.

Should I buy a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It blends strong off-road capability with upscale styling and broad everyday versatility.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $17,697, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $19,802 average.
• It offers strong on-road and off-road versatility with broad daily usability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,750, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,802 average.
• It adds a redesigned-era feel with premium materials, better handling, and a more polished cabin.

The bottom line: Buy the 2020 if you want the best balance of price, capability, and satisfaction in this generation. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want a newer-feeling version and can spend more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
